I have got to voice my opinion on this . There is a new large Rifle system that is being praised on the other board . Which many think the large rifle system is the way to go . Myself I have both . I like both but I will say this Jeff's system will handle more pressure and for the most part is a whole lot more user friendly. Most people that have had a 209 system has had problems with sealing one time or another. Again I'm not bashing either system I like them both . To my next point ! I'm a member of both boards and I get along with both boards for the most part . A while back on Doug's board I got into one hell of a argument because one of their members said that a Large Rifle System is inferior to a 209 system . I was not bashing a 209 system in any way what so ever but to say a large Rifle System is inferior to a 209 system I just couldn't let that statement go . My point to all of this is if it's inferior then why more or less copy Jeff's system ? ? ?

All i can say is this "new LRMP" sure isnt getting the same amount of flack as the HIS system received. The negativity is quite a bit less sofar.

Competition is a good thing and it results in more options. Some better, some the same, some worse. I personally don't see the downside other than all the school girl bickering over who's is the best based on who's on which board. I don't get the animosity between the bench rest shooters and the hunters either but I've never been one to turn things into a dick measuring contest either. Like the old man once said, there is a butt for every seat.

Jeff's system work very well, otherwise why would one want to make a similar design? I knew it would only be a matter of time. It all boils down to this, use what you think best suits your needs, be it 209 or LRMP.
like Doug says, I use both and see the merits of both systems, Jeff's plug has a very short flame path, hence very reliable ignition with a complete seal.

Like I said before I like both and have both but boy did I take some flack when I tried to defend a large rifle system . I was more or less told that this was a 209 board . I also agree competition is good and one builder can't build them all . In fact I would like to have builds from several and I'm on my way ! It just got me that after being chastised that now there is another Large rifle System . There must be at least a little bit to a Large Rifle System . Or at least it gives people options ?

For someone who deer hunts only and does no range shooting with a muzzleloader, would you guys recommend 209 or large rifle primers? I picked up a .45-70 CVA Apex and it has not been converted yet. I'll most likely be using IMR 4198 and a 200-grain SST in a light blue Harvester sabot. I doubt that I'd be doing much hunting below 20 degrees, if at all.

Its another expensive copy of a machined primer holder which is a copy of Jeff's system. Another guy than copied Jeff's primer holder is Bobby Hart Nothing new about it and if you read what Luke says and I have to laugh that some sanding on the breech plug maybe necessary to get a good fit or a change in head space. This is the difference between a custom built 209 gun I build or a custom built HIS gun Jeff builds we machine are stuff right you may pay more up front but I assure you of one thing it will work properly ever time. Luke tries to cater to the do it yourself crowd which is ok but it is just not the same.

I'm pretty sure the flame path in the ASG plug is a lot shorter than the 209 plug by recession the bushing but I haven't saw one in person. By leaving the overall length and threads the same either ASG plug can be swapped in and out in the same gun. This is just a guess on my part.

What I do know is the LRMP ignition produces lower extreme spreads in velocity in the subcalibers I've shot with both. My experience with 45 cals is about the same results with both.

Everyone has the right to make their own choices. I made mine and it was the H.I.S. Hankins Ignition System. I'm proud to say that my second Hankins Rifle is in the works and might be ready for the Spring shoot. It's amazing how members from the other board and even some here dedicated to 209's have beaten down Jeff and his ignition system, now praising the other option. Jeff has my business and I recommend Hankins Custom Rifles exclusively. Choose wisely.

Hankins is also building my 2nd rifle well third if you count a Savage barrel . I have said many many times there may be others that can build a rifle as good as Jeff but I have yet to see one better . Jeff Hankins takes pride in what he does . I'm proud to own a couple of his rifles also

My point to all of this is if it's inferior then why more or less copy Jeff's system ? ? ? Doug. Thanks for supporting my ignition system and standing up for what you believe in. The new system is being praised on the other board because those few guys like to stir the pot. The truth of the matter is,, They wouldn't have copied it, went to the troubles to out source parts, built rifles and tested the system, if deep down inside they didn't think I had a better mouse trap. The person you speak of that said the LRMP system was inferior was just trying to get you fired, its he that has an inferiority complex, nothing is good enough unless he does it. You guys that's been around from day one when I introduced my system over their know it was tore to pieces from the get go. I was asked to do this test and do that test and that test and so on. I did all their test and past them with flying colors. They (the few) over there couldn't believe how easy I made it look since they had been doing this for years and shooting with bushings with a .013 hole to keep from blowing up their 209 primers and using a mallet to hammer down their bullets. Man how the rules have change in the last few years..... Now I am with you about both primer systems will work, and they will work well, but I (and many others) prefer LRMP's in little brass modules that will seal out all blowby every time and light off what ever powder charge you want to use. Now just wait and see in a year or two how many of those die hard 209 guys over there switch over to LRMP's now that my system has been copied.

Like the old man once said, there is a butt for every seat. Competition is good and it does offer more options, but you only get one option over there. Up till now if you mentioned a LRMP system you were scolded and warned not to talk about it, if you mentioned my name you would get a warning in a PM telling you that you will be banned if you do it again. What is fair about that competition? A man can't even post about his CVA conversion over there, with out getting his entire post took down and a warning letter from the editor. One more thing. I see your a fairly new to this board, Please select your words carefully, we have youngsters and a few ladies that read this board. We are not here to measure man parts, so lets try to keep our analogies clean.

You know I am going to recommend my LRMP system. It is easy to use, seals 100% and goes bang every time. You also don't need to worry about water getting into the primer when the action is closed. A 209 will work also and is about $100.00 cheaper to install, but you run the risk of having a mis-fire, leaky seal between primer and plug and sometimes they want to stick in the plug and you need needle nose pliers to remove them.

Bobby Hart copied it, McWhorter has pretty much copied it, there is a guy on youtube that has copied it... So this will go on and their will be others to copy it, Will anyone ever make one that works better, I don't think so, can they be made to work just as good, of course it can. The difference here is I make all my own parts on CNC equipment and I keep them in stock all the time. I don't slave over a manual lathe trying to turn out 5 or 10 primer modules in a half day or so, and I don't out source my parts from China. It is kinda funny that the proper way to fix luke's leaky breech plugs is to either install a shim and epoxy it in place or get out some sand paper and see if that will work.... Unbelievable to me,,,, I guess that's why I get so many phone calls asking if I can fix their ASG gun.....
