Thanks guys, just got lucky. Definitely had a blessed season so far (considering how little time I actually spent in the woods). I was pretty wound up. Didn't see the j-hook drop tine until I picked him up. That was an awesome surprise. Love taking newbies/youngsters deer hunting just to see the reaction when they get one. No better feeling than to see someone get that excited about a yearling. Mike - will tape him out in the next week or so, kinda curious myself. gd

Hey Dennis, with the high price for shoulder-mounts, I have had all my recent bucks cleaned up as euro-mounts, a nice way to display our personal herds of bucks.

It's a great feeling getting them on a deer. I'm spending time with getting our boy out more this year, and he's taken 2 deer so far. He wants another with the mz now. Fine with me as long as the freezer is getting filled.

Line em up and take a glance at different deer occasionally to remember the story with each one. Good exercise for my rapidly diminishing brain. haha Then when you've had enough, cut the horns off and assemble a nice horn chandelier or set of table lamps that can stay in the family long after we've gone to the great hunting grounds. Seriously, with all the stuff we accumulate during our lives, I don't even want to think about what I'm going to do with it all, just enjoy it all while we can and let those we're leaving behind take care of it after we're gone. Of course, before I go I've got plans to accumulate a bunch more euro-mounts! haha

Dont know if you guys ever heard of this before but that chemical (forget its name) thats used to clean hot tubs works great for euro mounts in a big pot of water on a turkey fryer . Boils/eats the soft tissue right off and surely costs alot less than $132 propane included . Takes a little bit of time and it helps to trim off meat as best you can first . May have to do it twice but leaves a clean snow white skull . Congrats to All the successes this year !!! Ya did Good !!!

There’s a lot to this story but I want cover it all but my Dad passed away Nov 11 and 6 days before that my son and myself were hunting and he was carrying Papa’s muzzleloader which is a CVA Scout V2 and was able to harvest this buck. It breaks my heart just typing this but we were able to take the head this next day and show Papa what was killed with his gun in his stand. He was so proud of his grandson words can not explain. I’ve been wanting to post this before now but couldn’t, I can barely read the words I’m typing now from the tears in my eyes. The deer green scored 159 4/8 and my son is still grinning from ear to ear!!! With that being said life is short but eternity never ends, be ready!

chadBrother, I am sorry for your loss. Prayers up for you and yours. I can tell it was painful for you to tell this years “deer story” …..understandably so. Wonderful that you were able to share it with your Father before he was called home. I thank you now for sharing with all of US and a HUGE congratulations to your little man on the hunt/buck of a lifetime!

Congratulations! That there is gonna be some good eating. How ironic, the aim-point that results in the most "graphic" result is absolutely the most humane way to "harvest" game resulting in instantaneous death, preservation of the most meat, maintains the best flavor due to lack of hormones hitting the animals bloodstream and is the easiest and cleanest resulting field-dressing job. You gotta be confident in the shot, head-wounding a deer doesn't end well no matter how it ends.

I've boiled skulls before and I'd be interested in trying the hot-tub cleaner you mention, does anybody know the brand-name? Thank you.

Yes sir, you and your son did your father proud, take comfort in knowing you couldn't have created any more of a special feeling and warm proud memory for your dad to take home when he moved on. We should all be so lucky to have loved ones like you guys.
