I know some have mentioned trying them because of them being “bonded”. If you’re looking for an exit hole these bullets will not do so pushed hard and closer range shots. I’ve even hit them back in the liver straight broadside and there’s only shrapnel to be found. If hit correct though they’re like lightning hitting them.

I’ll play along here, scrounged this buck up here in the mountains on deep public land. Doe brought him to his death at around 40-45yds slightly quartering to. 275gr fury pushed with 75gr of H4198 Nice buck! How "deep" are you? Do you have to pack the deer out or is there access to get a vehicle closer? Just curious. Hope you're enjoying some delicious grilled tenderloin or backstrap.

In this situation we had to climb a big south face that must have been burnt 6-8 years ago because it was a jungle. But down low it was mountain laurel and rhododendron. Place of the shot by gps we were 1.29 miles and we actually dragged this deer because we had a fairly good trail to come around the north side of this peak. Drag was 1.8 miles that way, which part of it was easy down hill. If I would’ve been alone I probably would’ve packed but my brother was with me on this hunt, and that’s one reason the deer got it because we were setting at the tree together when I shot…somedays he would’ve got the pass. But typically I’m alone at the at the time of the shot and it was kind of cool to share it together. We’ve been beating the mountains pretty hard over the last few years so it was a little pay dirt. Some places we get into we can be pushing 3 miles deep. I have another thread in the muzzleloader success board of the first deer I shot with this gun that I did pack out from back in 2020.

I used the Encore with HIS system from Hank to take on this Hawaiian pig. Long shot for me. About 300-400. Used 200 gr Barnes w blue sabot. 15 gr. VV-110 so it was subsonic. Oh, that's 300-400 mm -- about 1 foot. Best part is no neighbor complained about noise. This is the original wild Hawaiian pig. He was kinda a friend. He died instantly so I consider it ethical meat -- ethical meat is my definition of meat from an animal who has a good quality of life and then dies instantly -- or almost instantly as with good shot on a deer. So hunting is a good source of ethical meat. But my mind's wandering again. These original Hawaiian pigs don't collect much fat -- this boy was an exception. They were brought to Hawaii in about 1200 by canoe. This guy ate MacNuts from an orchard that borders my back yard, plus table scraps and fruit. Oops, don't look at the mess and boat in the background -- Hillbill and Hank promise to someday go fishing for sea pig -- ahi. Note the name on the boat -- Filthy Whore. It wasn't my idea. It came from a movie "Cabin Boy". I see my dog in the background. No I didn't shoot him -- yet. Hes trying to pose like the pig. He's a Russian Shepard -- about the most worthless dog, especially in Hawaii. Hey, he might make plenty of ethical meat!! Anyone have dog recipes? The animals we kill here -- cows, sheep, pig and axis deer are all boned out so there is no aging of the meat. Everything is tough as hell except Axis deer. You have to have a good pressure cooker.

I was able to take my first deer at 500 yds with my 45 SML this morning. Never thought it would be possible to get a shot that far on a deer in my part of VA. To do it with a muzzleloader will have the neighborhood talking for some time. Shout out to Jim for the rifle rebuild in 2020 and Kyle for his advice and bullets these last two years. Either way it's a great accomplishment. Being confident in your gun and shooting skill to take a long shot like that is a fantastic feeling for us hunters. Great job!

Mike It was first kill at 500 yds. I never had a shot on game past 300 yds in VA before yesterday. I've been to Wyoming twice in the last 3 years and my furthest shot there on any game was an Elk at 400yds last month. Never thought I get a shot at 500 yds in VA before I got one in WY. Doing it with my muzzleloader made it even better. That Elk kill was with a GunWerks 7mm Rem Mag that the outfitter provided.

Shot her at 10 yards. She took a hard dirt nap with a 275 Pittman AccuMax.. Took the second doe at 15 yards with a 275 AccuMax. I think I need a smaller gun!!

Here is a doe I was able to put a stalk on using my Scout conversion on Nov 8. The rifle has a Gun Skin in Kryptec Highlander camo to distinguish it from my Dad's Scout. They both have identical components and needed an affordable and DYI solution to tell them apart. Click on bottom pic for better view of Gun Skin.

Pinned wheeled this doe Wednesday morning at 210 yards with a little Kentucky windage for the hold over. Hankins CVA Scout conversation with 53.5 grains of 4227, large federal primer and a 275 Pittman AccuMax. Perfect broad side shot with massive blood trial. Deer still ran 100 yards.

Congrats on your daughter Hillbill. Just to update my post -- I have to now retract my statement that everything boned out and not aged is tough. This pig had about 2 inches of beautiful fat on its backstraps and plenty of fat everywhere else. I tried frying various cuts and it all turned out to be tender-ish and very tasty. Mike, I'll update on any hunting stories that come my way involving muzzleloaders. I have other kinds of stories including a "Hilo" Grand Slam: (1) Pheasants in the early morning on Mauna Loa then (2) fish from shore since it was close to pheasant hunting on the far South side of the Island (3) a sore back.
