Buckeye68, Which bullet you prefer? 275 AccuMax or 265 Fury? Really good question. Either bullet will kill deer. Both bullets had complete pass throughs, DIRT and runners. All runners had nice blood trails to follow. Both bullets preformed very well. Fury had more damage only because it hit the leg bone. I personally think all meat damage was acceptable for the angle of the bullet entry and exit. Testing was done at 100 yards with 53 grains of IMR 4227, Large federal primers and a DI plug. The Fury shot a .634” and the Pittmans shot a .574”. Fury bullets cost $1.00 each. Pittman bullets cost $1.90 each. Both shot better without a wad. Here’s the reason why I prefer the 275 Pittman AccuMax over the 265 Fury’s. I shot 3 different 3 shot groups with each manufacturer on different range days. The Pittman won all 3 times over the Fury’s. Pittman’s grouping was more consistent and repeatable. The Pittman’s obviously has a better BC than the Fury’s and will be better at longer ranges. Both bullets are better than deer MOA at 100 yards and will take deer ethically but the Pittman’s won with repeatability and long range performance.

The deer are all but completely nocturnal at this point, and this WAS NOT the buck I had on my “hit list”, but I’ll take him…..it happens sometimes 🤷♂️. The shot he presented was just too good to pass up. At last light and 165 yards he was facing me and he put his head down to inspect the ground (there was a doe nearby) and I hit him right at the base of his neck/shoulder blade junction……..brought him down in a heap! DRT! Load used was the same as previous….278gr Pittman Accumax Hard Core traveling just north of 3,000 fps (79.3 gr IMR 4198).

520 yards. .40 cal 325 pitman. Large dose of blackhorn 209 =2910 fps at 16 degrees. 20 mph wind blowing hard to the right and up at a 30 degree angle.I compensated a lot for both winds. Wind chill was so bad the trigger broke when I wasn’t ready -got lucky- hit him high but the awesome pitman aeromax created a massive wound channel. He slid 40 yards.

Nice big-body buck! Looks to be a mature buck. Congratulations! I'll think about our hunting success as I dine on some delicious grilled backstrap tonight.

Thank you. I’ll give you the boring details of what i did to compensate for the wind. I’m a mil shooter so I’ll convert to moa. Held 4 moa to the left (for the right wind at 20 mph) =20 inches at 520 yards Dialed down 2.5 moa (for the up wind of 20 mph) =12 inches at 520 yards. The side to side hit perfect but the up/down was 8” higher from center. I had a good rear rest bag shooting prone off a bipod and had a good solid steady hold. Couldn’t feel my shooting finger and was looking at it with my other eye (non scope eye) when the gun went boom ! So i don’t know if any of the above wind stuff means anything at all -lol ! Building a good solid position and adjusting for the conditions likely helped. I wasn’t happy initially when that happenned w the trigger. The truth hurts - lots of luck in reality. I have lots of PRS style steel shooting event experience in high winds but I’m still learning. The saying “I’d rather be lucky than good” applied to this shot. I would rather it be “I’m good and make my own luck” LOL

Shot her at 10 yards. She took a hard dirt nap with a 275 Pittman AccuMax.. Took the second doe at 15 yards with a 275 AccuMax. I think I need a smaller gun!! I love the short barrel you have -how long is it ? I have an encore that I put a 16” 243 bull barrel on it and my friends make fun of it - saying it’s a little pop gun for kids. But it routinely outshoots most rifles for tight groups at short and long distances. It looks like that little barrel is a killing machine for you -love it !!!!

Barrel is 17” and with the muzzle break attached it’s 18 3/4” with an overall length of 33 3/4”. It’s a nice compact little rifle and crazy accurate.

I still can,t belief you shot the back legs off the first deer. On a serious note, how does the short barrel steady when shooting off hand. And is the ignition di or his.

After major health issues for both the wife and I the last couple years, today was a good day. You'll never believe this....................... 🤪 Hunting from the blind this morning and a buck shows. He's looking at the blind and I can barely see him, or much of him. Just a small hole showed his chest through the brush/trees. I figured he'd do like the other day and take off, so I tried to slide one through the opening. Well I cut it a little too close? The 350gr XLD with 120grs VOLUME of BH killed a tree................... I killed the tree but.............................................................. The buck was confused on where the shot came from and made 1 jump sideways and stood there looking. I loaded DUNAMIS back up and it was still standing there. This time he presented a good shot. BANG! That 350gr XLD knocked him end over end hitting him at just a slight angle in the chest. I can't believe the luck I had this morning. I will say this though...... How it popped into my head I have no clue but, I started humming the song, THE ONLY SCARS IN HEAVEN, and the next thing I know, he shows. About 75yds. 8pt. 3 on the right, 5 on left.

All my Encore pistols have been crazy accurate. I now made 18" 308, and 20" 450bm rifle barrels and both are great shooters. Something to be said about short, stiff barrels.
