HI i am in the process of having 2 cva scouts converted to smokeless muzzleloader. I will be using hankins plug with his module ignition. I have a variety of questions. These are the blued guns with no break and a 25 inch barrel. I am simply looking for decent accuracy, and enough speed to shoot out to 300-350 yards. simply whitetail hunting. I dont really want to get into duplex loading. nor do I want to buy more than a few powders to experiment with. I am an avid reloader but have none of the popular powders for smokeless muzzleloading on hand.
I have 200 gr sst and the barnes 195 looks interesting. I would have to get sabots, harvesters get mentioned a lot, do i want the crush rib or the smooth?
will also consider 225, 250s, 275, and 300s. No heavier than 300. 225s are still saboted the rest are bore sized, or is it land sized.
Should i get wads, veggy or wool, really only want to get one.
now for powder, I have narrowed it down to 3 that seem popular. h4198, imr4227 and n110. If someone could help me out with safe min and max loads for them in each bullet weight that would be great.
Also at what fps with each weight and powder does one quit going hotter?
I have also heard if loads are to low they get very tempetature sensative.
Im not looking to break any speed records, i realize the break action conversions cant handle as much as bolt guns with thicker barrels. I realize some bullets get soft at the heigher speeds. A 200 gr at 2400 fps should be enough to get to 300 yards accuratly and keep the recoil down. for recoil reasons i will start with the light bullets first and if i find good accuracy I'll probably stop there.
