I think vortex has a few options in that ballpark.

I like the Weaver Classic Extremes, they can be purchased for less than that at Natchez I think. For the most part I like them over my Leupolds, Zeiss, Nikon and old B&L (Bushnell Elites)

Weaver super slam gets my vote for the money. Vortex does have a great warranty which is great cause you will probably need it.

I use a Weaver Super Slam and a Vortex Viper on my smokeless gun. Both are good scopes. Zen

I really like my vortex hst but just recently it goes way out of focus anywhere past 8 power and up. So its heading to vortex. Probably has about1,000 rounds fired under it. Got couple weaver super slams and they perform flawlessly. For the money both are great scopes just always get worried when scope fails and get repaired when will it fail again?

Burris Veracity? Anyone have experience with It? Been researching these mid price scopes as well. Like the New NightForce SHV, but dont want a HUGE 56mm OBJECTIVE!!!!

I sort of laugh because with the way the scope manufacturers are going, maybe it won't be long before they increase their tube diameters from 1", 30mm, 34mm up to 56mm. lol

There are still a few Zeiss Conquest 3-9x40 around for $299. Hard to beat for the money if you don't need side focus.

Shane, Nightforce just released a new SHV........ a 4-14x50 F1 Illuminated first focal plane reticle. Also I had an Elite 6500 fine duplex and trust me,the fine duplex is not so fine,I would say it's a "medium duplex"..........

All the responses have really made me look at everything . i have time since my action is just shipped and my Stock . What i shoot now on my breakopen is a plain old nikon 3x9 it has held up great , i was given a inexpensive Hawke by the factory rep awhile back and put that on the encore .... the jury is still out. My biggest concern is new guns recoil and a medeoker scope holding up with recoil i really only want to do this once. But budget has its affects ,

Always something to think of I guess

i am a big fan of Vortex. I've sold a ton of them and put a bunch on these ML's I build. I have never had one the needed repair. However,, I always stay in their top end stuff like the Viper PST, Viper HS-T, Viper HS-LR and the Vioer HS on the big bolt guns and I've used the Vortex Diamondback HP 3-12X44 on some light weight hunting rifles and the Diamondback 3-9-40 on several Apex conversions.. All are holding up perfectly for me..
Now you might get a bad apple every once in awhile but that don't mean the whole barrel apples are bad...
Spend as much as you can afford the first time and cry once..
I'd rather have one good high quality go to gun than to have three cheap ones that I have no confidence in.
