This is a great post. I started out with a Savage ML 1 over 20 years ago. I shot alot of deer in VA with that gun but I knew my limits and never pushed them. Then I had a chance to get a good buck for the Savage so I sold it and bought a Rem UML. I have shot a few deer and again I have been selective on my shots with 0 misses or lost. Now I am wanting a serious SML hunting rig that I can accurately shoot in hunting conditions out to 350 or possibly 400. I have three options: 1. Buy a prefit Remage .40 cal for my Rem UML $800+ 2. Send in my Rem UML for a full blown SML conversion $2,000+ 3. Send my Ruger #1 into Hank for a full .40 cal SLM conversion $ 4. 1+3 and get the wife a 2ed job and have 2 SML None of the above. Buy the Defiance Outcast action and build what you really want. You’ll be a happy camper after that. The action is a few more bucks than other muzzlerloader actions but the fit, finish and smoothness is above the others! I did a side by side comparison, they are awesome! Great, this is the last week of ML seasion here in Maine so I could probably get a fair price for my Rem UML right now.
