Is anyone shooting anything other than Parkers? Just for hunting, the BE are no question accurate and they kill very quickly. I am looking for something when I am hunting and do not want to destroy the meat. I guess I am looking for something that acts more like a typical rifle bullet. I have looked at the Barnes, but didn't know how they would load or act at 2900 + fps. Just wanted to see what everyone else is hunting with.

Barnes will handle high speed impacts just fine but they may shed some petals. You could try the Parker Match Hunter series but they are pricey.

Look seriously at the Barnes 290 and 250 TEZ. They shoot dynamite from my gun.........as good as any Parker and they will not come apart. They seem to work both smooth sized and full formed. I also get excellent results from the 225, 250 and 300 gr. FTX's. I would guarantee that if we were limited to hunting at 300 yards or less, I could kill as many deer with a 300 FTX as you could with a Match Hunter or Luke's APB. You don't have to shoot MOA to kill a deer at 300. Richard

the Barnes are great killers If my shots were limited to 300 yds that's exactly the bullet I would be shooting If the accuracy were there. I shot the TMZs in my Savage .50 years ago and a better killer don't exist, I would shoot a Grizz with one by choice If I had to use a muzzleloader..

Yeah, I am not too worried about groups when I am hunting. I am going to pick up some of the barnes and check them out. Richard, do the barnes shoot all the way through the deer? What is the exit hole like.

the Barnes will exit every time as long as you have decent speed on entry, have never recovered one..

I killed a doe last year with a 250 FTX. It did a nice job on her, only went about 40 yards with a good blood trail. Not the damage you will see out of the BE. The deer I have killed with the 275 BE have dropped in their tracks.

The Barnes in my opinion kill as good as or better than most. I've killed a half dozen or so out to 300+ yards none has gone more than few yards...All but one have been complete pass through with a 2" exit hole and major damage all the way through....Accurate also...I like them Zen

are most people smooth sizing or rifle sizing? In my Brux I smooth size mine to .4492 and then slightly knurl for a snug fit for good results...I see where some are knurling up and then full forming them with good results...What ever suits a guys fancy...Give them a good kick in the pants and they'll work for you. good luck Zen

I shoot them knurled up to .455 and then FF sized and I shoot them smooth sized to .4498. Many of my groups and velocities are identical. Zen gave you the strait scoop on the ability of these bullets to kill critters. Richard

Zen..........I know you shoot the 250 gr. TEZ right? Have you ever shot both the 250 and the 290 side by side and if so, what were your results? I am tempted to try the 250's but would like to hear some results before I plunk down $80 plus shipping? Richard

My Savage Pac-nor centerfire conversion shoots the 250 TEZ very well. I have some 290 TEZ's that I have shot from my Pac-nor barreled Savage 10ML II but haven't tried them in the Custom. Interestingly, with identical loads of 10/60 4759/4198 the 290 TEZ only gives up 35 FPS of velocity to the 250 TEZ.

Richard I've only started shooting 290's since you started posting your results....The accuracy in both are about the same out to 300yds..MOA is obtainable with several powder combos.. I've gotten great results with 7/60 clays/4198 with both bullets...2800fps with the 250's and around 2700fps with the 290's..Probably the most consistent accuracy comes with 11/59 N110/H322 combo...I'll be hunting with them again this year...Out to 400yds they work..That's plenty far enough to shooting under hunting conditions Zen

I only used Barnes 290 TMZ on my Moose hunts, they hold together. Less than 5 grs loss. In my penetration tests the 300 and 350 X bullets lost zero weight. No long range shots my longest shot at a Moose 128 yards, others under 100 yards

Just ordered 100 of the 250 TEZ from Carlos at Ed's guns shop for 90 bucks shipping included. I bit the bullet, pun intended, and ordered that much because of the reviews from all you guys and Carlos. He likes the same duplex load I do, 10/50 4759/4198.
I thought that was very good deal.
