I painted a stock couple years ago and loved how it turned out. I used a matte gloss spray paint to give it extra protection after I painted it which did help a lot however it does rub off after use. Could I use a polyurethane lacquer instead to give it a better protection coat?

If you want satin or flat you'll have to buy clear according . Or you can add flattening agent to any clear.
