Its funny, those lacquers will last for years if the lid is on tight. The older enamels? After a year they turn seedy and need to be thrown out. What I may do, is the color in lacquer and then use the two part catalyzed clear to cover it. It is more durable than the lacquer.

That will look good... And if you pick the right bench to shoot from you might be able to blind Kyle with the glare coming off the high gloss... With a little practice you can shine it right in his eyes....

Changed my mind! I have this old Wennig laminate thumbhole stock that I built for my Savage ML conversion quite a few years back. Actually I did quite an extensive thread on doing the entire stock from scratch on Doug's. The stock was a "flat top"...........NO inletting/barrel channel what so ever. When I sold the Savage, I put it back in an original Savage thumbhole stock. This Wennig stock is super heavy duty and always fit my trigger hand like a glove. It is going to take some work...........fitting some wood where bolt handles go and a couple of other places and then re-doing stuff. I will be eliminating the rear action screw on the Remington action as it will not match up with the location of the Savage trigger and instead I will tap the receiver much the same as the third pillar screw on the Savage. Then maybe free float the tang. Not sure on that yet. I will put the Tracker stock with the custom action up for sale so I have some money for BOOLITS! Maybe I can even afford some of Keith's little jewels! Work on the stock will begin this afternoon and Thursday I am going back up to Airbornike's to puck up the barrel. Might even brake this one? So Kyle...............No need for the sunglasses!

well my parts pile is slowly coming together, hopefully in a day or three I can post up some pics of the semi completed .375 I have named "LongShot", it has that name for more than one reason if you catch my drift.
I have it together and bedded but had to paint the stock with some tuff I had lying around, stock is drying at the moment. it still needs three coats of clear before I can peel the tape out of the bedding, I also have to deepen the pocket on the plug and drill and tap the action for the bolt stop screw.
specs are as follows:
#6 brux 12 twist @ 28" with skip fluting w/ 4.25" shank, Harrells tac brake SS rem 700 CF action with custom 209 bolt by a trusted member and friend PT&G aluminum FP assembly Jewell trigger Murphy base/ bedded arrowhead plug stock is a B&C M-40 I had that was used so I put it to work, repainted and bedded; it will serve as a test mule for now if the gun proves out scope is my test mule zeiss conquest 4.5x14x50 RZ 800 bullets are CE 300 grn annealed and FF sized in a very nice custom die Rossman made me a special sized collapsible RR loading is done through a funnel/bullet starter that works very nicely powder to start will be IMR 7828 and hopefully I can get the 300s to 2800 accurately ( fingers crossed) plans are to flute the bolt and add a knob as well as melonite the steel parts if all goes as planned (strange things do happen) weight is 12 lbs 3 oz as described and with leupold QRW rings IF I can hit a bull in the butt with this thing I will likely carry it on our MUZZ opener weekend after next
stay tuned for some pics in a day or three and wish me luck..........

Savages and Remingtons don't exactly match up! . The inletting took some work also. This was the old Wennig stock I did the write up on Doug's about 6 years ago. This was a completely blank/flat top stock that had to be completely inletted including the barrel channel. Elkman is supposed to be sending me one of his muzzle brakes and still don't have the breech plug from Luke. image upload no registration screenshot program
