With the recent talk about black guns I thought I would post her. Wanted to build a non flashy hunting sml so here she is. As usual for me Savage s/a. 450 Marlin chromoly EABCO accuracy barrel 26" 14 twist teflon coated and converted to lrmp. Pillar bedded in a Boyds classic stock. I may go with a lighter stock and scope to cut her down to 9 pounds. Gonna shoot 290TEZ deer stompers or Kyle's 325 to 350 Amax over a straight charge of imr4198 or imr 3031. No targets. Got the flu.

Looking great. I am joining you with the flu/sick. Second time already. Whole family has been on and off sick since Christmas. Kid keeps bringing it home from school. Not real happy.

Good looking rifle right at 10lbs with scope is not bad for a 26" with wood stock and scope. Hope you get rid of the flu crud.

Great looking gun Jerry and all most everyone needs for "normal" deer/critter hunting! Very utilitarian. Love it!........................................But then, we have to contend with the Kentucky Challenge and another set of parameters might come into play! Thanks again for the PT's as I know it tends to put some member's mind at ease when creating loads.

That is a beautiful classic look all the way around! When ya get over the nasty bug, perhaps it won't seem to weigh so much. P.S. I like peanut butter on my toast, too.

Thanks guys. I am on the mend. I am ok with the weight of the gun but I will likely change the scope for a lighter one with capped dials for nearly a 1/2 pound reduction. I am partial to Redfield Revolutions for woods hunting. I have 8 and have never had a failure. The Viper on her now was an impulse buy when they closed them out for the new models.

WGK and I made it to the range today with plans to pressure trace and try out Ole Black Betty. Well, the pressure trace unit went tits up upon power up so no pressure tracing today. (I reflashed the firmware and think it is ok now. We will see early next week) On to Ole Black Betty. I shot a couple of straight charge loads that one of which I was skeptical about. The 250TEZ surprised me with a straight load where they usually require a duplex to obturate. I suppose the 14 twist gotem spin up. No wait time between shots because when you're stacking deer up, they don't wait for your barrel to cool. LOL The fourth shot I pulled but still not a bad group. 70gr IMR4198 WW 250 TEZ LRMP. Both groups are un tweaked loads. I just arbitrarily chose a powder weight before going to the range. Since these fast twists tend to like heavier bullets, I shot 6 shots of 60gr IMR4198,LRMP,WW, with Kyle's flagship 325 Accumax. Again, no wait time between shots. The recoil wasn't bad and 2500fps is more than adequate. I am super pleased and as much as I like the TEZ, this will be my hunting load come season opener. Laser better be prepared to drag some meat next year in FL.
