I agree with both the turret height comment and the capped comment. I get the feeling the taller turrets was a "fashion" trend that is starting to come to an end. As for exposed turrets... at one time I though they were the cats meow but I sure do get tired of seeing my exposed caps moved a click or two out of position. The latter mostly occurs on my AR-15 with a Vortex 1-4 PST. I dont know if its because the turrets are so sharp and grippy or what but the windage knob is always getting turned. I typically carry single point and assume that has much to do with it but if I had a do over I would have ordered the capped version.
Hillbill, Is that tab for ease of power rotation only or will it lock the power setting as well? If that tab locks the power ring it would be useful.

This scope looks very nice and it would be great if it holds up.
For hunting purposes I've decided on a scope with capped turrets and a BDC reticle. The scope will still be able to dial up but for hunting situations you don't always have time to dial up.
Good luck with the new scope and looking forward to field report.

I just plain like capped turrets. Even on my competition scopes. Although I will say, the turrets on my Sightron are very stiff and do click into place so movement should not be a problem when casing the gun.

I only use capped turrets. Do not care for the alternative for me.

As in all situations they both have their place. I really like target turrets nowadays. None of my Leupolds have them. But all but one of my Ziess have them. And if course my NF has them. Once I zero the scope at 100 yds I set the turret to zero. Drop

I fired it a few times last weekend but nothing worth talking about until more rounds go down range, I will say it seemed to be fairly clear and bright though, my 2.5x17.5 with the HD glass was very impressive optically, I have it on the .375.
the only gripe I have on the 4x20 so far is the very tall windage turret, it appears to be the same basic turret as the elevation which I would imagine is a cost saving measure.
depending on how far my daughters BB team goes in the state tourney I might get to fire it more this weekend.

That and I cant see the numbers on the mag ring without glasses. Because the vortex is the most expensive scope I've purchased I must not know what good optics are because I feel the vortex scope is a hard scope to beat for the money. Other than the first one I bought on the cheap side (crossfire) and over tightening the rings and crushing the scope I have not had any issues with the viper HS series scopes I have purchased. The recent viper HS 2.5-10 I just purchased has not been put to the test but I'm sure it will hold up. I do have a friend who has a night force that I'll compare with my vortex but honestly I don't feel it's a fair comparison unless I had the razor to compare.

That and I cant see the numbers on the mag ring without glasses. Different peoples eyes see different things for sure. I've had 2 vortex Vipers, a Viper HS and my brother has a Viper HS. He has excellent vision and my vision sucked until I had lazer correction 3 years ago. To his eyes the Vipers are equal to a Leupold VX-3 with the luepold having a better eye box and clearer around the edges. To my eyes the VX-3 is a clear winner. I now have a VX-6 and to both our eyes it beats the Vortex's easy and hangs right there with Swarovski Z-5. Just our opinion in a side by side test multiple times in all light conditions.

DP that is a very true statement about different peoples eyes. My buddy says that my Zeiss are some of the worst scopes he has ever looked through. He loves Burris!

Most on this board are probably more accomplished shooters at the bench or at long range than I am. To me clarity and tracking are the most important because I can't hit what I can't see, and when I dial windage or elevation I don't like when one effects the other. Budget drives a lot of why I use what I use and I am interested in the final verdict on the S-TAC. A friend on the board told me to buy the best scope I could afford, which is sound advice. I need to sew up the holes in my pockets.
