I recently had some discussions with Alan, Sightrons customer service rep and he has agreed to send ole Bill a test mule for my scope killing Apex. He sent a 4x20x50 x 30 mm S-Tac with MOA 2 reticle, it arrived today just as he said it would, I just unboxed it and the initial inspection looks good. it has capped target turrets which have very defined and audible clicks (good) and the side focus seems firm but not too tight (good). one feature I really like is the flip up "tail" on the zoom ring making it easier to spin with the off hand giving more leverage and folds back down making things more steamlined. this scope is no lightweight @ 23.8 oz nor is it short @ 14 7/8" but there are also much bigger scopes out there. some other specs: eye relief: 3.7-4.0" (good for these cannons) windage/40 MOA elevation/80 MOA 15 MOA per Rev cost? SWFA has them for 449.00 so it's no el cheapo but for the features it has? not bad! it also comes with a Sightron logoed Scope Coat cover (nice!) tomorrow I will post up some pics and let you know how it stacks up against the 2.5x17.5 S-tac with ED glass and the S-III on my Ike gun. I promised Alan I would post up every click it takes and every move it makes, it will go on the Apex which has some pretty stout recoil and being mounted on the barrel it will get all the harmonics it produces, scope killer? has been so far! We will see how it pans out and I will be honest with my findings, good ,bad or ugly. I invited Alan to come to the site and comment if he likes and answer Questions if he will? How many scope manufacturers would send out a scope to get torture tested on an SML? Sightron has which says something to me about the faith they have in their product.
Stay Tuned!!

Let's hope Richards scope is just a bad sample, I now have 3 new Sightrons to torture so I plan to find out in the coming months how they stack up.
If the 4x20 is decent optically and will stand the recoil it would make a good all around scope on these guns at a good price point, time will tell.
Alan told me they had been tested on 300 mags but this is a whole different animal?

I hear you Bill. My 300 mag Abolt is a pussy cat compared to the 45 cal Apex. For what it's worth I've set up 3 apex's with leupold VX-R and all still running strong knock on wood. Sorry for the temporary hijack.

What loads do you shoot out of your apex? Break or no break?

Bill a picture of the flip up tail on the zoom ring would be much appreciated. Sounds like a very nice feature if it is strong enough to last.

got it out and played with it a little and took some pictures clear and bright but it is mid day, dusk will tell the true story in a day or two, overall not a bad looking scope.

I have installed 6 of these scopes and not heard a negative report yet. I wish turret was shorter but very minor complaint

I have 2 SIII 10-50x60 on benchrest rifles and they have worked GREAT. There's not a lot more I could won while using these scope's but I do realize the recoil wasn't the same but I believe you may have that with any of them. There clear and I've competed against every well known brand in the benchrest world and can't tell a lot of difference. I have an extra 1 if any may be interested. Just PM me. Thanks Chad

I sure hope it holds up. I have my sights set on a SIII next spring and it's gonna get abused a lot.

My SIII is working out well in the deer killing fields, #5 fell tonight, played with the illumination when it was so dark I could barely see the deer and on the lowest setting it was great, no wash out at all, Sightron has the Illumination figured out on their scopes, works very well.
It will be a while before I get this new scope mounted and really check it out but I have high hopes..

For a hunting scope capped turrets are not a bad thing, you can take it off and stick it in your pocket when in the field
