Looking to buy a good front rest for shooting. I am not a bench rest shooter so I don't want to spend $1000. I would like something around $200, for sighting in, and checking my rifles zero before season. Thanks

I use have a 15 year old Sinclair Int'l Heavy Varmint rest I use but I'm sure their light weight front rest is good too. Anymore, the vast majority of my rifle shooting is done from alts and I just use the rest for initial zero and load development.

I use blue jean legs filled with sand and wire tied on the ends. Also put a plastic garbage in them to keep the sand from seeping out

Is the Bald eagle much better than the caldwell BR? Looks like the bald eagle is about $50 more for the rest, and then you have to buy a front bag, so it would be about $80 more for the rest and bag

I bought a Caldwell BR Rock several years ago and never did really like it although I am shoot tiny groups using it, it's just made CHEAP. The bag that comes with it is pretty cheap also so buying a new bag is a have too do anyways..
I finally drove down and bought a $700.00 Sinclair rest and ask myself every time I use it why I waited so long to get one... It's like most everything else,,, you get what you pay for..
That Baldeagle rest is 10 times better the the Caldwell rest IMO.

I have a Caldwell Rock. With a good leather bag. Its ok but I have never owned anythi g better to compare it with.y friend just bought one for a little over $100.....claims to be the same. I gave $125 for mine years ago. I see them priced from 125 to 200. There is a difference though. Mine.is solid cast. If you look at the bottom of the lesser priced one. It is hollowed out on the bottom. Not as heavy So be aware of this. I just went and looked at the bald eagle rest. Good deal for that.money. I picked up a bald eagle BR top.. But if I was buying another soon I would seriously.look into thet Bald Eagle

Well I ordered the Bald Eagle rest, but they didn't have any bags in stock. I will probably just pick up a caldwell, and they are supposed to get back in stock at the end of the month. Looks like some pretty good reviews on this rest, hope it helps next weekend.

I have put both a Bald Eagle (original Bald Eagle) front bag and a Protector front bag on my Lead Sled which is "Caldwell" and they will work. There is adjustment in the two side supports. The major problem with the Caldwell's are that everything is on the "loose" side. You have to make sure you really tighten the adjustments ALL the time. They just loosen to easily. I have built bushings for every moving part on my sled and it is a whole lot better. The rest I use for my match rifles is the Original Bald Eagle before Bill Gebhardt retired and sold out to Grizzly who employed Chinese construction It has a "windage" adjustable top. That new Bald Eagle version with the "cable"? Has a lot of "slop" in it. Both my shooting partners Herman And Bill bought them and had to do a bit of engineering to remove the play. Problem was you would turn the knob and it too a while before the top would move (cheezey speedometer cable arrangement). My rest is also mounted on a steel base for more weight and stability. Don't get me wrong, the Caldwell rest or Grizzly Bald Eagle will suffice for most all shooters......short of the Bench Rest crowd or serious accuracy shooter. Elkman makes a nice one for around $1,000.00 or will modify your Bald Eagle for an additional $500 or so? upload images free

Richard, I bought the bald eagle rest with the cable. I do not like the cable at all, I was planning on ditching it and putting a knob adjuster similar to the one in your picture. With the cable it is slow to react to adjusting, and when you get on target it then go a little too far. I like the idea of mounting the rest to a thick plate, the rest weighs about 20 lbs alone.

I got a steal on an old bald eagle top awhile back . I couldnt find any bags to fit the new narrow bald eagle. I caller protektor and ordered 2 custom bags. 45 each to my door....in 4 days. Love them . My new slingshot is all ready to go...when I can get to the range anyway. Good de for that discount price for sure Drop

Both Herman and Bill, my shooting buddies have modified that contraption and are now pretty happy with the results. I talked on the phone to Bill Gebhardt, the original builder of the Bald Eagles. He told me he had designed a cable assembly that was very precise but expensive. When he sold out to Grizzly, the guy went cheap and had China build them and they suck! I could take some pictures next Tuesday of Bill's and send them to you. Maybe you could get it to work to your satisfaction? They are using them to shoot our 600 yard BR matches and have no problem.
Kind of like the lead sled......cheesy but with some TLC it can work quite well.

Richard is there any chance you could send me some pictures of Bill's improvements? Thank you in advance. Or post them for other's to see that may want to make the improvement.

Richard, I would be interested in the pictures. I was planning on getting rid of the cable all together, and just adding an adjuster rod with a knob. I really like the location of the cable, but it is too sloppy.
