Well This was a amazing evening to test at 1,000 yards. I tested two loads 10x and IMR 3031 same loads I tested at 100 yards. On The first round of testing the wind was switching back and forth but the first groups showed me that the gun will shoot.
The 10X group is only two shots because when I poured the powder in the funnel some of it bounced out so I put that one on the back bank. But the first two hung together pretty good. the IMR 3031 was bigger but I had a double in the 3 shot group if you look at the one picture you can see the two bullet holes. So I waited out conditions hoping they would get better usually around 7:30pm they get good since we can only shot till 8:00PM I started shooting at 7:30.
I shot the second 10X group first and then shot the IMR 3031 next no fouled or sighter shots just shoot and load as fast as possible so the condition stay the same. Both groups are probably World record for a muzzleloader the 10X showed vertical in both groups the IMR 3031 had almost no vertical in the second group it also shot smaller at 100 yards and it is also a little slower in velocity I think if I backed 10X off a little the vertical would improve but its still awesome performance from a muzzleloader at 1,000 yards.
The BC on the 325gr Aeromax works out to right around .410 which is really good for a flat base 45 caliber bullet. The bullets were still very stable at 1,000 yards looking at the bullet holes in the paper they were nice and round we always look at how the bullets strike the paper and tune our bench guns if we see a problem.
Until someone tops this I do build the most accurate muzzleloader period. More pictures on post #2

I think you could give Jethro and Uncle Jed a run for their money shooting flies off of the fence. Good shooting Carl!

Kyle this would not have been possible without your hard work in wanting to make us a outstanding long range bullet. I believe that the 325gr Aero is really the best bullet made to date. Boy if we could get a long boat tail to shoot look out.
My next test will be with 5 shot groups. I did shot 6 shots back to back with two different loads on two different targets and they were in the low 6" range so I believe on a good evening I should be able to shoot a really nice 5 shot group IBS records are 5 shots our record groups are 10 shots but that would take to long to fire ten shots.
Any long range benchrest shooter will tell you that the Williamsport 1,000 yard range is the hardest range in the whole country to shoot good at no matter what time of day so for this gun to perform this good on it's first attempt really pleases me.

Not the only muzzleloader bullet that is up to the task of punching holes at 1000, but it looks like it can hold its own in the pack. A boat tail .45 would be one heavy bullet, unless bearing surface was drastically sacrificed. Not many shooters out there would want to pull the trigger on a 450-500 grain bullet. Congratulations Carl!

Kyle let me know when the 300gr Aero's come in I need at least 150 for a few shooters around here. Yeah I wouldn't want to shoot a 450 gr bullet. Kyle the bullet holes in the paper looked really round which is a very good sign that the bullet was still very stable even though it slowed down into the 1250fps range. I was a little worried about that last 100 yards to the target but as you can see all is well.
I think the 1-18 twist is a must have for shooting past 600 yards. I have my hunting gun which has a 1-20 twist Shilen and it is a tack driver I might see how a 1-20 holds up at 1K that gun only has a 15 power scope but that's not all bad for many years we only used 15power Unertl target scopes and we shot well.

My hero carl...................but then you never shot Hawk's Ridge either.............Two big valleys to cross, woods and mountains on the left side and front and nothing on the right side! It too is a tricky range.

Richard that would make me nervous shooting over the top of that big chicken coup. What if I hit a chicken. Yes I have heard it is a hard place to shoot probably Montana is the best in the country for 1,000 yard comp. I showed my targets to Jay Berger today his is one of our top shooters he was floored that a muzzleloader could shoot that good at 1,000 yards he saw some of my 600 yard groups in the past but didn't think 1,000 was really doable. Like he said he has a hard time keeping the vertical that small even in his best match guns. One group would have been a fluke not 4 groups. I hope to shoot again next week.

The 325gr bullet is certainly accurate enough and would still have over 1,000 ftlbs of energy but a muzzleloader no matter how accurate IMHO is a poor choice to do any long range hunting only because of the fact that you loose total sight of the animal after the first shot because of the time it takes to reload and get back onto your shooting bench and finding the deer in your scope and make any needed corrections is simply to long of a time. With a good shooting gun and a steady rest and a lot of practice shots out to 400 to 600 yards should be doable if it's not windy. When you start stretching things way on out then bad things happen real fast.

The local 1000 yard range at Oakridge Tn is similar.

You have it right Carl! Hunting at 1K with a muzzle loader is probably like peeing in the wind. One shot kills would be very unlikely and not really fair to the animal. Too easy to miss or get a bad hit.

I guess my next test will be to go out to one mile don't think I have enough elevation in the old Sightron. Hey mine has held up well to M/L. It is my favorite scope it is clear as a bell at 1k but if I had my 42 power NF on I could see the bullet holes on the paper because I could see the writing I put on the target on 32 power. I could see it but not read it but on 42 I could have but I am not going to change things now.
