It's been a long time in the making but If I get my base in the next day or two I hope to be burning powder this weekend. I need to tig the base in place then bead blast, hopefully it will go bang. 13.2 twist Rock creek 1.155 for 6" straight taper to .800 @ 28", Harrells Radial brake, Jeff's DI plug for ignition, 6 flutes by Marty @ Twisted Barrel It's been a PITA to get things to fit right but I think it's as good as I can get it. no holes drilled, thimbles tigged in place to hang the forearm and it's floated. 8 LBS 1oz as pictured, likely 8.5 with base, balances really well even with the longer barrel, 2 lb trigger. will still do more work on the brake to blend a little better.

Nice looking gun. 40cal isnt legal in my state of IN, so I never got too excited about one. Have seen nothing but happy shooters with one.

I never got too excited about a .40 with the bullet choices out there but I see good things on the horizon so I decided to do it on a break action.
when welding the lug and barrel thimbles I siphoned water through the barrel and it never even got hot, it worked really well, when it's done I will take some pics before I put it back together hopefully for the last time.
My goal in the end is to push a 275-300 grn bullet 2700+ safely, with a 9/16" plug and a 1.155 barrel shank I think there is enough meat to get it done if the ole shoulder can stand the recoil.

I am a retired plumber but you have taken it to a different level with the water through the barrel for a preventative of over heating the metal. Awesome work!

ALL MINE!
base came today, gets welded on tomorrow and bead blasted hopefully. Jeff sent me the die today so I should fire it up friday with any luck.
will start with 240 CEBs and then some 300s when they arrive, I have my fingers crossed..
IF this thing is a shooter I will keep it til I die! has been a fun project but I don't think I would do it again. PAIN IN THE RUMP
Matter of fact I have a name for this rig, PITA

Bill, do you feel that the addition of a brake on this break open helps reduce the negative affects of recoil on the scope?

It's done!
the base is welded on, don't look the best but I think it will work all the same. bead blasted and cleaned it up, it's hammer time this weekend!
Yes Steve I think the brake will lessen the stress on the scope and the shooter.

Great project Bill, I bet she will shoot as good as you have invisioned and you might have to change the name to PITABWI ( but worth it).

it's bore sighted and ready to fire the scope is bright and clear, turrets are very tactile and are easily heard, the biggest thing I noticed when I first picked it up is the eye relief, mucho! I clamped it down and spun it up a good ways while on the bull it moved with every click and returned to the bull when zeroed out. the reticle will be a nice reticle for hunting, a little heavy for target work but this is a hunting scope. so far I'm impressed but who knows? the guns weighs 10 lbs 3 oz as pictured with the heavy Leupold QRW rings, they will be replaced with something lighter soon, it's all I had lying around at the moment. Just came in from outside, the scope gathers light very well, it will work til very last light for sure.
