I have been toying with getting a new truck. My long range plans have been to upgrade every six years or so. This way, with extended warranties I don't have to worry about major repairs. The warranty is now up on my 2010 Tacoma 4x4 sport. I have to say, this is the best truck I have ever owned and that is a bunch! There are different theories on how long to own a vehicle. One is to use it until it dies! The problem there is along the deah trail, you wind up sinking a lot of money into repairs to keep it afloat. Then when is not worth anything and you have to buy a new one, they cost a fortune. The other is sell or trade it while there is still good value in it and to get a new one, you don't need a "kings ransom" to get it. Along with that, you have reliable transportation. In years gone by I could do most any repairs on my vehicles.........today, there is so much electronic stuff that without the diagnostic equipment and training, repairs need to be done at qualified garages or dealers so.....................I decided I needed a new 2016 Tacoma. Since my new gun build will probably not be done for the Challenge, I will just bring the new truck They have to get it in from South Carolina or Georgia and it will probably not show up until the end of the week. image upload with preview

Richard, that is awesome. I have had 2 toyota trucks, not 4x4, and they were great. My brother has had tacoma's working on his 2nd now. 275k on the last one and it was running strong when he sold it. Keep with up with routine maint. timing belt, water pumps, fluids, ect..... Great trucks!!

Do you have ice/snow in your part of NC or do you go off road?

Looks good. A lot of happy Toyota truck owners out there. In NW Indiana, it takes about 6 years for a vehicle to rust away from all the road salt and garbage they spray on the roads nowadays. So you would be right on track. I got an 02 F150 from Arkansas 2 yrs ago in immaculate shape, and the undercarriage already looks like trash. Sickening!

I run a 2012 Tacoma and like you am very happy with it. We are on a 10 year rotation for vehicles at my house so every other 5 years one of us gets a new vehicle. In the past I always had a second junk vehicle or motorcycle I would drive and keep the miles down on my good vehicle but this time I cant afford the luxury. I went with the long box 4 door. Added a 2.5" lift with heavier springs in the rear and this little beast hauls like a half ton. Was a ford guy in the past but think I'm a Toyota guy now.
Only complaints I have is my gas mileage is pretty sucky. 18-20 agerage and I sure wish they would add about 4 more inches to the cab for more cabin space.
I have heard for a while now that they are working on a diesel for the tacoma. Probably all dreams and speculation but if they do come out with one... ohh boy!
Anxious to hear about the changes on the new model and you will be a perfect person to let us know about it after owning the last incarnation for so long.

I have a 2001 Dodge Diesel and have always liked that truck. I bought it new and plan on driving it till the wheels fall off. So far I've have very little maintenance and I've done all that myself.. I need a new dashboard and windshield, but I'm ok with the crack.. The body is rusted out also but it starts every time I turn the key and gets me back home..
I have a friend that drives Toyota products. He has a Tacoma and his wife has one of the cars.. They both love them.

ANY Toyota products that come through our shop are great .I have never heard a person complain about a Toyota or a Honda . Cannot say the same for Subaru or Volkswagons ! ! ! Everyone loves Toyota trucks .For some reason Toyotas are very easy on brakes and exhaust . I'm sure you will be very happy Richard .

Yup! No complaints what so ever. Like Linebaugh, we have been on a six year rotation. The wife has a 2013 Elantra so this time it is my turn. Fortunately she is good with money and budgets a certain about every month to the "new car/truck" account so when the time comes for one of us to get the new vehicle we can pretty much get it with no financing. If there is a deal on zero % then we will go that route! Yes, we do get some ice and snow from time to time and it has come in handy as our street in not one that gets plowed and it is on a hill. I have taken it up to NJ to visit family in the winter and it is definitely a plus........Off road? VERY little. It is more of a security feature and also a good resale feature. My 2010 only has 53K and is garage kept. Trade in value is excellent and more so due to the low milage. Weather tech mats and seat covers has kept the interior pristine. No wrecks, dings or dents. The new 30 inch barrel should fit in it OK Kyle Another interesting thing.............the dealer has no use for the cap? When they gave me the trade in price I thought it included the cap? Sales manager said I could take if off if I wanted. Upon doing some side by side measurements, it looks like it will be a perfect fit for the new truck. Will just get it painted to match. If not, I can still sell it which makes the deal even better. upload a picture

Richard,
You and I are too much alike which makes me feel sorry for you. Something wrong with you.... Lol.
I have run a topper on every single truck I have owned since I was about 22 years old. I would not own a truck without one and it's the first thing that gets installed when it leaves the lot. I like the looks and love that I can keep things out of sight and reasonably dry. Every topper I have owned has leaked a bit but not enough to matter to me.
Again, give us a review after a few weeks.

Wouldn't own a truck without a topper either. That is gonna make someone a very nice previously owned vehicle. I'd take it in a heart beat.

Hmmmmm I typed this 4 page reply an lost it.lol Richard congrats on the new truck. Did you get the truck to match the new red gun? Or paint the gun to match the new red truck?. Either way they both look good. Very glad the topper will interchange. I had to buy a new one since I went from a chevy to a ford . And that was a sticker shock. Wont have a truck without a topper either. Got a trailer to haul ugly stuff. See ya soon Drop

I forgot to mention running boards are for girls and really old people and should only come in pink with a free dashboard hula girl permanently attached dead center in dash.
Couldn't help it. Sorry Richard.

the toy trucks are and have always been very good trucks, once you've owned one it's hard to by another brand. My tundra has had 0 issues over almost 10 yrs and I don't baby it, it's still in good shape and I would drive it anywhere.
the new Taco's are good from what I hear, you made a good choice Rich, I bet you got a good trade for your ole truck too..

I would agree on the "running boards" Linebaugh but not the nerf or side bars. It definitely helps for my wife who is somewhat shorter than I and I really think they add something to that "empty space!" Obviously if your stump jumping they would not be advisable. I have already been perusing the internet and pretty much have a set picked out. Russ.............I doubt I would paint the gun to match! Mainly because the quart of paint would be very expensive along with the hardener and then the clear coat. I have shelves full of lacquers in various colors and a fresh gallon of clear lacquer. I might be able to mix up something close:)

Are they akin to "bobble heads?" Beat the tar out of me? The dealer tells me its coming in from Georgia and should be here Tuesday afternoon. I will probably get it on Wednesday or Thursday. Just got done cleaning out the old one. Amazing all the crap you accumulate over six years!
