Last 20 yrs I have owned 2 trucks. a 4 speed, 4cyl 4x4 tacoma. 11 yrs and 240,000 miles. And now a 2007 Tundra 5.7 liter 4x4. for almost 9 years. Great trucks and almost no maintenance. The Tundra is like new other than some dings and surface rust here in Western NYS. Plan on having it a bunch more years. Wife has a 2012 tacoma 6 cyl, 4x4. Way nicer than my old truck. Still like new and nothing but oil changes.
Love em

Nice looking truck. I just read in the last day or so a Toyota Tacoma, a 2007 or 2009 just turned over 1,000,000 miles. That is serious driving per week, I do not know what the fellow did for a living. A friend of mine had a Toyota, some older that had over 700,000 miles on it. He was hoping for one million but I think it was wrecked or damaged in some way or had a frame issue because of the salt. That truck should do all you ask of it.

I would say the 6 cyl Yoda's are fairly powerful if you are using it as a passenger vehicle. Not impressive but very adequate. We have a lot of hills around here and it lugs a little on the steep ones. Not the Tundra which is way heavier. The Tundra is a different animal and for a 1/2 ton it is like a 3/4 ton. I have the 5.7 liter with the 6 speed tranny. Better on the low and high end than the 4.7 and gets about the same mileage. The torque is very very good from a stand still and a load going up a grade. Impressive.
Very powerful truck. I have towed a 18' boat loaded with crap, the bed loaded with crap and 4 guys way up into Quebec. You really can't tell that you are pulling anything. Big campers? Horse trailors? Don't know. But, the average Joe will be well served on the power end with the Tundra.
Richard, those new Tacoma's are super sharp looking. Your truck looks amazing!

So, here is what one has to do to get his cap up high enough to back the truck under to check and see if it fits? This is the cap from the 2010 truck which the dealer did not want. It appears as though it will fit according to dimensions and the cab/cap contour appears to be identical. Unfortunately that little sucker is heavy and I just couldn't muster four guys at one time to get it on the truck without it maybe slipping off and scratching it. So, I worked up up little by little until I could get 2x8's under the front and rear. Tomorrow I will remove all the junk and see if it fits? The new motor is supposed to have more balls than the old V-6. The most I pull is a 6x10 landscape type trailer for getting mulch and what not.

Richard, that's almost exactly what I do to get my camper shell on off my Nissan. If I'm not mistaken you've got that 3.5 liter V6 cylinder engine with 278HP.
That's alot of giddy up if you ask me!

Well, I dropped it on the truck today but..............the design of the new tailgate will not let it slide all the way forward. Also, the rear window would hit on the top of the tailgate. I had considered doing some cutting but could not determine if after the cutting the cap would sit lower and the window would really hit. If I did the cutting and it did not work out then I just butchered a good resellable cap So I guess I have to hit the cap dealer again!
