I frequently measure up more charges than I use. Those not used are in plastic vials and inside plastic zipLock . I winder how, long these would remain ok that way? Or if I should put them back in the container when I return home from the range. I use 1lb jugs. Any thoughts? Drop

I'd think as long as the container is air tight, free of humidity and at room temp. you'd be good to go for a long, long time. At least that's what a guy at Hodgdon told me of the powders in their plastic jugs.

I agree with rambler. As long as your powder tubes are sealed I think you are good for extended periods of time.

I have been known to use my hunting loads, left from the year before, to check my zero. They have always held true. I keep my powder, reloading equipment and rifles in a humidity controlled environment.

I have always made a habit of not dumping back into the original container out of powder vials. The only time I'm concerned with powder in vials is hunting at temps below zero. Then the couple loads of powder I carry all day in my pocket usually gets dumped before I go in for the evening. I have a routine I follow and any deviation feels like a recipe for disaster. Believe me I'm not superstitious in real life just hunting once in awhile,,,, Okay most the time!

during hunting season I load usually about 20 in plastic vials,10 of those are in backpack in & out of weather from home to field where ever I go.
I have re-weighed & chrono'd those left over a year-they were good so I just use those straight from the vial as I need them.
I would be more worried about extreme heat/sunlight breaking the powder down rather than sealed vials that sometimes get cold & wet.
if you prefer not to empty back with the original container.. save a extra empty powder jug & mark it for vial dumping.
russ- if you need an empty 1 lb powder jug let me know, will throw it in the truck for ky challenge.

Not sayin' there isn't one out there, but I never could find any plastic vial which truly sealed. Those with snap on lids allow the lid to turn which tells me there is no positive seal. Those with threads (of sorts) are not strong enough to keep the lid tight (the cap will sometimes work completely loose in my pocket while hunting). I don't really like any of them. What a guy needs is a container which will honestly seal until the powder is needed....a container which gives a person confidence the powder will stay dry for years if need be. www.pilotvials.com/Screw-Thread-Bottles.htmlThe Polyseal caps give a true seal to the vials. I no longer use my powder trash can. Haven't felt the "need" to throw any powder away for the last three years. They fit perfectly in Kyle's Tube Storage Rack.

I dump back into the original container all the time when I find a load that is not working. Never had a problem.
