The Spring annual machine gun shoot and show is in Knob Creek this weekend. I am unsure when this first started but pretty near my basic training area of Fort Knox, KY and not all that far from Hanks area of KY. Should be hot shooting and cold weather. I am glad when I was shooting full auto that my Uncle was paying for the ammo.

Jims.........I have shot quite a few at various police seminars when I was on the job. They have their place as a tactical weapon and in combat. To just blow up stuff..........to me? is a waste of ammunition? I tend to be more the "one shot--one kill" type. If a gun is not accurate, its not interesting (a famous quote by I believe P.O. Ackley?) but then everyone is entitled to what they like? I have seen videos of one of those machine gun shoots and man, I would not want to be within miles of one. This is what intrigues me with these muzzle loaders..........the accuracy potential from a one shot weapon. I feel the same way about single shot long range pistols. Taking a speed goat at 220 yards with my 7.62x39 15" barreled Contender was a real thrill.........then a mule deer at 150 yards. Another antelope at 156 with my 7/08 XP-100 plus many prairie rats with a 6mmbr XP and a .223 Ack. XP was also more exciting than spraying bullets.

I do not necessarily disagree. I always felt the first shot is the best shot and should be the only shot. I do not feel handicapped with my MLs at all, basically the firearm of choide for me for the last 10 to 15 years. I would not want to pay for the ammo in an auto myself. I did not even like cleaning my service M16. I think that is why I never bought one or a derivative later. Also my service M16 was heavily worn before I got it and did not function well at all. I had it apart it seemed more than I had it functioning. I had a number of high power centerfire years before the service and when I criticized my M16 my drill instructor did not like it but it was not consistently reliable. I think I would have preferred the M14 or M1 except perhaps for the weight.
Those days are long gone but the frustrations with it remain. I understand after 45 years of further development and better powders etc. they are far better today. Still for the most part a bolt action guy even on a ML for me.
