what size bear do you see up there? I went to Maine about 3 years ago, and I was disappointed in the bear up there. I saw 4 bear, and the largest was a sow with 2 cubs. I just shoot her with the video camera for about 5 minutes. the largest bear taken that week was 190 lbs.
I have been thinking about going to northern Alberta, few places allow you to take 2 bears. Looks like they have nice bear there.
Where do you go in Saskatchewan?
good luck

The bears range in size from small bears rite up to as big as you will find anywhere! The truly big bears that are old battle scared boars are smart and it takes alot of patients and letting smaller bears go I have taken some pope&young bears also 1 B&C boar that had a 20 3/4 skull and was 6'6" nose to tail he was a true 350lb spring bear in the fall he mite of been pushing 500lb! I have seen some other truly big bears there and just couldn't get it done with my bow! Usually see between 6-25 bears in a week depending on the weather we hunt in the porcupine forest between usherville and hudson bay

Question, I'd like to give bear hunting a try and curious what bear taste like. Someone told me that they are not very good and very greasy?? I love hunting but also focus on eating what I hunt as well. I still plan on trying it but wondered what people know about bear and how to get it to taste good!!

Bear meat in the spring is not that great because when they come out of hibernation there muscles are not firmed up and tends to be stringy and mushy when cooked! Although it does make good sausage! A fall bear is better eating due to them feeding on more grass and plants all summer and there muscles firm back up

One rule on the survivalist's list of no no's, don't eat carnivores. Read up on biomagnification.

I shot one up in Ontario that the outfitter was feeding with rotten beaver carcases...............The bear meat was just as bad! The back straps were doable but we ground up the rest and my Weimaraner enjoyed it!

I shot an ontatio black bear back in 2001 her diet was 99% wild blueberries they were everywhere in the area we were hunting. The bears just sat in the fields eating blueberries all day. She wasnt as bad as other bear ive tried but i still didnt like it. Guess everyones taste is different but i will be fine if i never eat it again
