I recently purchased some to work up a hunting load for my 45-70's but I want to try them in a SML 45 or 50 cal. I figure in the 45cal I'll probably have to full form because of an all copper bullet but maybe with a fast powder or booster I wont? So if anyone has worked with this bullet in a modern SML I would like to hear about it? Heck even a load of BH209 would be ok if its accurate.

All i can tell you is they are harder than pure copper. 95% copper and 5% zinc IIRC. Hornady does sell the same bullet in .451 or .452 with sabots.

Would also like to know if someone has successfully full formed them for .458. I pushed just
ONE through the die and was afraid of ruining the die to push anymore through. They are
so hard, it's almost unbelievable that they can even open up. It MAY work to get some of
the thinner sabots and shoot them in the .50, though.

I've full-formed monos with good success but not that bullet. Never tried it. Pure copper can be hard to size and gilding metal is harder yet. Even pure copper can benefit from annealing but it is not necessary for good accuracy and precision. It just helps reduce effort. I would also recommend a wad.

I knew about the 5% zinc but didn't know it made them that much harder than pure copper. I'll probably just use them in my 45/70's
