I don't shoot either of the 4198's in my Apex but there are plenty of folks here that will be able to answer your question. They'll probably need a little more info though to give you an accurate answer, i.e. which bullet/weight are you shooting, IMR 4198/ H-4198 etc.

I'm getting about 2500 fps with 275be with 60 grains IMR4198 with a fairly snug fit in a 24 inch barrel. Recoil is manageable but should be better at 55 grains.

Hi Rich.......I love it! Light and easy to shoot off hand. Trying to determine a max safe load, as it is shooting 275BE's sub moa at 60 grains of I4198. The recoil is very tolerable andI'd like to bump up slowly to 65 grains, but not sure the barrel is thick enough. Been researching SAAMI pressure data and the Encore is supposedly safe to 43kpsi (well under what 65 grains should produce in a smooth form lan rider). I hope to chrono this weekend and determine if there is load efficiency between 60 and 65 grains. Sometimes more powder is not the right answer.

I meant to touch base to see how it was going for you, good to hear that sub-moa stuff!! I always thought it was a shooter! I was told to keep the break actions to 62 gr or less of 4198 with a 250-275gr bullet if that helps at all. I'd like to shoot this weekend too, except it's still snowing & blowing here!! Stay in touch with your progress.

I may stick with 60 gr as the gun seems to like it. I'd like to get above 2500 fps to make adjustment minimal to 300 yards, but knowing what to adjust for is as meaningful as minimizing adjustment. I imagine 65 gr may result in quite a kick, as 60 is manageable but worse than my 700 Rem at 78 gr. In fairness, the 700 has a brake but hearing protection is not optional with that gun.

You can say that again my encore Kics worse than my 700 hankins with 78 grn also , A 275 BE in the short barreled encore/begerra with 56 grn 4198 is plenty for me , The 225 ftx is a nice shootin bullet for the encore . recoil is way more manageable . The awesome thing is the versatility of the little encore in the woods and tree stand , The Buck Dozer will work awesome for the blind and shootin sticks ....... cant wait till november!

Is the 225 ftx a pistol bullet? If so, what kind of terminal performance do you get? I would assume that bullet is designed to expand at a much slower speed than these smz's produce. Don't get me wrong, I'm all for less recoil.

Good to know. I may give them a try. The 250be and 275be's blow up as well, so if the 225 shoots with accuracy, there is no reason to take a pounding.....right? !

these pics were posted awhile back of ftx bullets .......... i like the 225 for the break open but for the Rem 700 Whitetail Crusher im goin with the AccumMax the xtra weight in that gun sucks up the added recoil so it isn't an issue ......

I'm planning to get some of Kyles bullets. I hunted with the 270Emax this year and the jacket is just too thin. Shot 5 deer over 200 yds with my custom 700/Krieger/smz and that 270Emax makes a mess. The good news is they don't go far, usually DRT but no exit wounds and they shatter the insides of a deer.
You'll love the range you will get with your 700. Opens up your opportunities if you have open fields or power lines.

That was the hole purpose of building the 700 if i can keep the pressure off them ( keepin all the perpetrators off and around the property i have ) i can shoot some fields out too 500. I shot a deer with the AccuMax last yr im sold i thru the front shoulders away but there isnt much there anyways . When the big guy steps out i dont want him walkin away .

My most accurate load is 73.5 gr of I4198 at 2850 fps. I've shot up to 78 gr but my best groups are at 73.5 to 74. I fully understand that the Emax is built to explode. I talked to Bob Parker (nice man) after my first bullet recovery and he explained that the bullet did exactly what it was supposed to. The next one I shot at 350, I was hoping distance would slow the bullet down and the terminal effect would be less devastating. It wasn't.........I assume the emax performs very similar to the BE's, as the jackets are the same thickness.
