What distance on average do you shoot most of your whitetail deer sized game?

Most of my deer at home, are almost in bow range. I shoot groundhogs a lot farther

Western Nebraska tends to vary from 50 yards to 400-500 yards. Eastern Nebraska where I live inside 100 yards.

I would say an average of 50 yards. I shot one a little over 90 yards this past season and my father in law and I was talking about how "far" of a shot it was. He said he probably wouldnt of took that far of a shot. Lol. 100 yards looks like a long way in the thick woods.

I said 50-100 yds
I estimate that I have killed about 75 deer with ML's since my 1st one in 1998. 18 yrs. Ave 4 a year. My number may be low as there have been several years of 5-6. Farthest shots:
190 yds with my knight. Trying to hold a small lead in a fast wind at a walking buck. Held around the head trying to figure lead and drop. Hit about where I was aiming so it was really a bad miss that worked out. Probably should not have shot but knew it had been wounded by an arrow several days earlier and we knew the deer.
150 yds with the Savage. 6-7 from 100-150. A huge number from 50-100 and several 25-50.
Hunting from the ground and from hang on tree stands limits effective range even when the gun is up to it.
This is the reason I have tamed my hunting load down to a 300-370 gr bullet going 1500 fps. Kills as good as any of the he-man loads I've been known to shoot and doesn't blow the hell out of a fragile deer.

I chose 75 to 125 for my most average over a lifetime of hunting, but now with these much more accurate ML's I have found it east to make shots at 400 plus, so as the seasons go by that average distance will continue to grow.

I choose 75-125 like Jeff for my average till now. But now I set up most of my stands for 100-200 yards if possible. I have a nine food plots I hunt mostly now that I get to hunt most afternoons after work, getting off at 3:30 and to stand by 4:15 gives me about an hour and 15 minutes to hunt. I have enough stands set up to sneak in without busting anything in the plots. For the two weeks I have all day too hunt I hit the woods and shots will be 40-80 yards. It has taken several years and lots of work to get things set up but pays off. I started shooting SML because (1)I got tired of the daily cleaning (2)seeing what I shot instead of a cloud of smoke is another plus and (3) the county I hunted in Va was ML and shotgun only until about three years ago. Also now my three SML will shoot as good as my centerfires up to 200 yards.

terrain & hunting pressure here puts most of mine between 220yds to 350yds,avg shot @ 250yds. sometimes they come closer & I let them if that's the case.
I use from permanent stands with a gunrest, when not on permanent stands use bi-pod & back-pack as rest in the field.
here in gun/mz season hunting in small woodlots is a waste, open fields produces best results.

I voted 0-50 yds. also for where I hunt in the Blue Ridge Mtns. of VA. Most area's I hunt there are pretty thick with most shots at typical Bow hunting ranges, but I have killed a few in more open places there over the years at ranges to 150 yds. or so, but those opportunities are very rare.

Most of ours are 75-125 yards. Seldom much closer or much farther.

Prior to going smokeless, I had to pass up several shots because of distance. Now that I have a couple of SLM's that easily could have taken all those shots, most have been 75-125yds with the rest being even less......go figure.

Last year my shots with the muzz. were from 75 to 208. I voted 75-125 as the most common for me.

Typically, under 50 yards when hunting a stand. From the ground, 150.

a lot of things really come into play here in NY the first is hunting pressure . early season shots are normally 100 or less as the season goes on they can become very long 200 to 400 how your set up and what your lookin for. In the early season a short break open runnin around 2300 is perfect as the season goes on the land cannons make those long shots a little easier .

I don't use a tree stand and it works out most of my shots are in the 75 to 125 yd. range. When the gun was a .50 with open sights I didn't use a scope. Now .45 I don't have that option.

nobody: Unsure if the 45 meant age or caliber. Understand if it is age and eyes, unsure what it means if caliber.
