After a trip to the range yesterday I decided it's time to upgrade my Rear Shooting Bag.
I'm currently using one that came with my older Caldwell "The Rock" combo rest, which looks like this;
I'm not sure if it's just because it's just getting worn, but it isn't very stable anymore and has a lot of "wiggle" in it.
The front rest is still fine so I'm just looking at options for replacing the rear bag.
A lot of choices "look" nice on the internet, but I was wonder what some of you guys are using and might recommend?
Thanks,
YB

I would recommend a leather "rabbit ear" bag like a Protektor Bags that many suppliers sell, Sinclair International sells them among others. Edgewood makes higher end bags that work well too.

I have a handful of Protektor bags. Front and rear. I like the way my guns ride in leather bags Drop

Yankie bill i believe on the bottom of that bag there is a flap. that when unfolded acts like a funnel and if u pour some of the stuf out it sort of looks like media , or fine cat litter ... or speedy dry u mite wnat to try and add some to stiffin it back up again . Im sure after time it breaks down .

You can call protector directly and buy from them they carry more bags then most vendors and they will fill the bag with regular sand or heavy sand. You can call and ask for Dave if you need something custom. I buy all my bags from them they have my templates for my rifle rests that I make so its works out really well for me. They will treat you right.

Appreciate the info guys,
I'll look into the leather Rabbit Ear Protektor bags, they seem to have better structure than the leather/polyester combo bags like I have now.
Thanks,
YB

I have this rear rest also and my advice is to loose it. I'm going to get a protektor of some type. Replaced my front bag with one and immediately had better results.

I still use a rabbit-ear bag off the bench some but I have gotten to where I use my RedTac Half-Pint just as often. I keep it and my shooting mat in the truck all the time just in case a range opportunity pops up. I don't do a lot of bench shooting so my rest and rabbit-ear stay at home unless I need them. I guess what I'm saying is something like the Half-Pint can be used for lots of stuff (say a front rest over a tree trunk, or a rock, or the rail on a climber if they have them, etc) where a rabbit-ear cannot and I can still shoot tiny groups with it from the bench. I'm sure the BR dudes would disagree but it might work better since there is no chance of being misaligned with the front bag and causing the gun to recoil somewhere other than straight back. The only thing you could say might possibly make it less precise it requires more control from your hand. That said I have shot a lot of .2-4 MoA groups using one from the bench and the bipod.
