Excellent morning for shooting with the weather clear and running for 58* up into the low 70’s with breeze picking up some as the morning progressed. Started out by fouling the barrel with three shots. 1. 225 FTX loose, veggie wad and a 10/60 Clays/H4198 duplex. The first shot was with a CCI mag primer at 2871 fps, the next two with Win. 209 at 2900 and 2879 for an average 0f 2885 with a 22 fps ES and a 2.5” group Next up was a 274 gr. SST (300 gr. with the base hollowed out) with 78 gr. of H-4198 and a wool wad for shots 1 and 2. #1 way out to the left and #2 coming back to where it should. Shots 3, 4 and 5 were shot with no wad and formed a decent .632” group with shot #2 being close by. Here again, I believe the switch from the duplex to the straight charge caused the shift in POI?.....Even discounting the switch to NO wad? For the third group I went to the Pittman 300 gr. Accumax with a straight charge of I-4198 and no wad. Slight interference type loading (one hand) As can be seen, the velocity of three shots was 2732 fps with a 2.8 fps ES and a .220” group! Moving along, I have had three Parker 300 gr. MH bullets sitting in my loading box for the past two years so I decided I would see how they compared to Kyle’s bullets. They were probably sized for my old PN barrel? #1 loaded just like the previous AccuMax’s and gave a velocity reading almost the same. #2 loaded quite loose and the velocity dropped and #3 probably could have slid down on its own and the velocity dropped quite a bit lower…………….and the group reflected the velocity changes. So, no real comparison? I believe the thicker jacket did not obturate sufficiently with the looser fit and thicker jacket. While I was still shooting single powder loads, I used the 73 gr. I-4198 with three 275 BE’s which gave a nice .467” group. Back to the 274 SST’s with 10/60 Clays/H-4198, no wad and Win. 209 primers. Five shot group not great but three stayed under and inch. It is just a bullet I altered some on the lathe………..three jaw chuck with a counter sink doing the work? Probably not the most accurate set up? With the fourth group, I experienced the same problem as with the second group. Switching from one type of powder to another (duplex to straight). My first shot was fired at the right side of the orange Pittman Bull and was no where on the paper? For shot #2 I dropped down to another bull and you can see it hit 3” to the right. Since the velocities were close, I assumed it just went off the target board to the right? Now shots 3 and 4 come back right were they should be .610” apart! Since I was out of 73 r. loaded charges, I decided to call it quits for the day! Almost every time I switch powders and sometimes bullets, the rifle seems to need one or two shots to “come around!” Next week if the weather is good, I will take the 300 AccuMax’s out to 300 with that charge. upload fotoupload a gif

I have only shot one group with the AccuMax so far but it was really tight. Like so many others have said Kyle has produced a top notch bullet.By the way Great shooting Richard.

nice shootin! no wad & approx. loading pressure? hellava group & es-hope it continues for repeatability.
Almost every time I switch powders and sometimes bullets, the rifle seems to need one or two shots to “come around!” I see this quite a bit also even in cf

Did you run out of Accumax's to make a "5" shot group?

Richard your starting to make me proud! Good shooting I take it this is with the Brux barrel? Looks like your gun really likes not wad at all. That sure makes life simple. My Shilen barrels will shot without a wad but the Douglas will keyhole every time without a wad. They keyhole at 25 yards but the wad in and it is a tack driver it's fun how tiny things cam make such big changes.
Keep you the good work And that's with a straight powder charge Great!!

Part of the problem is the cost. I can afford to shoot multi shot groups with a bullet that cost under half a buck each but as good as Kyle's bullets are, it starts getting pricey. I have to HOARD them for the Kentucky Challenge! They are obviously worth the money as I know what it takes to produce a custom bullet.........I just can't justify the cost for informal shooting. (retired, police pension and SS? ??) Oh, and a son out of work whose mortgage and bills I am paying! Oh I will be shooting more to confirm those results. And yes, I actually had two more sized bullets with me but wanted to showcase the group for Kyle. It gets hard to put all five together. I had similar results at our 600 yard match on Saturday (of course, you have no idea what your group looks like until the targets come back from being scored). I had FOUR of 5 shots in .8" in and the fifth made it a 1.9" group! No way of knowing if that one that was out was the first, last or one in between?

Richard, cost was part of the equation on my 3 shot groups also, but just remember: " when you play with the big boys, you have to shoot five or you get a DNQ!"

Right! But this group of guys are not competitive shooters and don't have to follow the IBS or NBRSA rules so I have some "leeway!" I am more interested in a pattern with these bulles. Can not expect to shoot bug holes every time but if they group say...........3/4" or so? That would be fine. So get your tent packed up for Kentucky Steve! I'll buy breakfast

Best breakfast in town is there at the shoot! No need to spend any extra money on breakfast. Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner at the shoot on Saturday and breakfast Sunday morning.
