While waiting for my stock finish to dry, I thought I would refinish the frame and barrel on my encore. 3 years ago , I sprayed on brownells aluma hyde 2 dark Parkerizing. After lots of hard use ,there were some scratches. I tried to remove some of the finish with carb. cleaner and steel wool, would not touch it! This is some tough stuff! Decided to just spray over the excisting finish.Came out great. For $13+ ship. a do it yourselfer cant go wrong. Great product from a good company. Leftyml

Good to know it works well Lefty! That is a problem with any surface coatings============They will scratch; even the best of them. This is another reason why I steer customers away from Boyd's gloss coat on their stocks..........It is applied just like automotive clear coat. Its tough but it does scratch where as their standard finish is impregnated right into the wood and no matter what you do to it, it does not come off and you can always lightly sand and polish out minor surface nicks in the wood. For me its either stainless or blued. I can see if you got a blued barrel that is rusted or pitted where you want to make it look purdy then its a definite DO!

Frame is stainless, barrel is blued. This is a hunting rifle ,so I wanted to kill the shine and match it all together on the cheap. Works for me!

I would like to use that on my Apex. Did you use carb cleaner to prep your gun metal the first time you did it?
