With all this talk about scopes I would like to get some honest opinions. I own a brand new Zeiss HD 5 5-25X50 that I am planning to use on my next build. Problem is I have the hots for a Nightforce. If I buy one it will have to be an SHV 5-20X 50. Here is where you guys come in. Is it worth selling the Zeiss to purchase the Nightforce. Is the Nightforce that much better.

there is a lot of suspicion about the durability of the Zeiss 5x25 high definition and I do have two of the 5x25 and my last scope that I purchased was a Nightforce NXS 8 by 32 by 56. i I have had one size 5 X 25 HD failure they replaced it. Th other one is on a 12 lb RemPac with murphy base and qrw rings with well over 100 shots on it. And I dont baby it.. I am going to replace.those with TPS rings just for security reasons. The glass on the Ziess does seem brighter than the Nightforce. But the durability and reputation of the Nightforce bring a secure feeling. Ziess WILL take care of you IF needed. So will Nightforce. I have 5 Ziess scopes and 1 Nightforce. And a dozen Leupolds. But my next scope again will be a Nightforce again. Will I sell my Ziess scopes? Maybe? They will work perfectly on other guns...just.that question as to WHAT IF on these Hot Rod muzzeleloaders. Hope this helps Drop

Reticle....always bee. A problem for me. Never.liked a cluttered field of view. So I always ordered plain duplex and used my turrets. BUT I discovered that cross hair SIZE DOES make a differance. I have the duplex in my Ziess but MOAR-T in my NSX. And for "aiming small"missing small". There is a differance. I dont use the stadia lines....YET.....just because I havent learned them yet. That will come. But as I stated in the earlier post....I purposefully tried to lose the crosshair in the dark tree line....and you could The Ziess.....no. I am interested to see some SHV Nightforce's to get out there and be reviewed and compared Drop

I too have heard about the reliability issues with the Zeiss. I own several of there scopes and haven't had a problem with any of them. This 5-25 was a replacement for Zeiss referb that I bought before Christmas. That scope had issues from the word go. It was a 6.5-20 conquest and Zeiss replaced it with scope I currently have. I guess we will see.

My first one failed from the get-go....less than 15 shots. I believe the mounting system has a lot to do with failure. My rings may have not been up to the task? But the next scope went right in the same ones? No failure yet. When I talked to the rep at nightforce. He told me when they mount a scope they bed it directly to the action....no release agent on either. He said they use "a little heat" when it is time to remove the base......Am I that brave? Yet to see. I used release agent on my first one....but upon thinking . Will I ever remove the base? Probably not. BUT I will use release agent on the threads of the mounting screws. As far as the refurb? Does it have the full warranty? If it does.... Then I would full speed ahead. Just use premium mounting hardware. keep us posted drop

when those scopes first came out a couple years ago I bought several for builds I was doing and one for myself, every one I know of failed including mine (twice), optically they are very good for the price point but on a heavy kicker they just can't stay put. JMO Bill but I would sell it and get a NF, Sightron SIII, Burris XTR II or a Leupold VX 6, again JMO..

Had a regular Conquest fail(side focus)on my BH209 gun. Zeiss replaced it with a 3-15x50 HD5. So far I have about 25 rounds on it with heavy loads of BH209. No problems so far but we will see. My next build will have a Nightforce on it.
