I am looking for a hard case for rifles. I would prefer the one that has the custom cut foam. I am not looking to break the bank, but would like a quality made product. What brand do most of you have?

I have a Browning Gun Vault but have only used it when traveling.........Too heavy! I mainly use the aluminum cases from Gun Guard.

Pelican gun cases are probably the top of the line but pretty costly.. You do your own cut out and it's pretty easy to do.. I've done several of them for customers. I don't own one for myself but they are very nice... I order mine from the pelican store... I think it's. thepelicanstore.com.

Boyt H51 is what I have. Very nice case and not as pricey as others.

I had a Boyt. It was a nice case...but not as durable as the Pelican. The pelican 1750 runs about $200 on ebay. And you can't get it in green black tan or even orange. I really like mine. I have 1so far and several cutouts of foam to fit other gun set ups. I have to remove my brake to use it. Mut that's cause I want plenty of foam on each end to protect my guns. Keep in mind who may be handling your gun cases..... I have shipped mine with me twice to Alaska. And no problems whatsoever. I look at it like this.... I have a $4500 rifle and scope combo in there. Plus the 1750 has wheels. But Richard is right ...heavy drop

Drop, you have a great point. I have a fairly expensive rifle, so I shouldn't go cheap to protect it. I was talking it over with my wife at lunch, and she said go with the pelican. I am sure that it what I will go with. I was thinking the same about the different foam inserts

Few months back, I had brake trouble on my main truck. On my way to an afternoon sit in a tree, my brakes fail. I pull over, and call my mechanic. He comes with a towtruck, and on the way back, HIS brakes fail. we end up off the road into a tree to avoid a school bus. My bow, in the back of my truck (now on a tilt, on a rear frame lift style tow) gets thrown into the road sometime during the excitement. The bowcase was hit or run over at least twice before I got it and threw it back into the truck while I dealt with the situation. End result was a few scuffs to the case, bow was fine. The trucks... not so much. That case was pricey, but it saved a $1K+ bow, so in my mind its paid for. SKB case, definitely good stuff True story

Cabelas armor extreme double long gun is what I have and its rugged. Very happy with it and you can get extra foam to cut to fit a different gun. It on sale right now for $150. I you live close to a store you can ship there and pay no shipping. I'm about 30 minutes from the DE store so it super convenient for bigger items.
