I am starting a new build. I bought one of jeffs barreled actions . Modified #17 brux-700 action. I am in need of some stock recomendations. I would like to keep stock around $500 or less. I have never bedded or pillar bedded a stock before. I would like a wide flat fore end for better bench shooting. Or if some one has one laying around.

Bell & Carlson M 40 will work well, bout 259 plus shipping. Barrel channel will need some work, skim bedded, Will also need BDL bottom metal

The B&C M40 is the stock Remington uses on the Ultimate ML. It does feel pretty good and should ride the bags well. I do prefer the laminated wood stock they offer for a hunting and or packing rifle.

Long or short action? I have a black with red webbing for a long action.

Another vote for the B&C M40. Used one on my last build and plan to use one again on my present build. I do bed mine but it may not be necessary???

Richard's Microfit has quite a series of wood and laminated stocks but they take a fair amount of sanding/fitting etc. and you would have to bed/pillar them yourself.

I had suggested the ProVarmint from Boyds. Not a true bench rest stock but a pretty beefy forend and the price is great.
