Anyone here have a good .357 mag rifle? I am thinking of adding one to my safe. Over the last 3 years I have really grown to love my 30-30 lever action for it's handy-ness, power and hunting accuracy. I shoot a lot of .38/.357 and was thinking about the ballistics you read about when you load .357 and shoot from a rifle. Actually very impressive and would also make a great short range deer gun in the right hands (I have the right hands...LOL) It would also be a great companion rifle to the pistol if you ever had to grab a rifle/pistol and a pocket full of shells and travel.
125's are pretty snappy out of a rifle and 158's or 180's are fast enough to shoot out to 150 or so with adequate power. Seems like a 140 XPB at around 1800-2000 fps would be kinda neat for a 100 yds woods deer gun. Any experience or opinions?

I had a marlin carbine some years back and it was a daisy. At the time I had big bore syndrome so I sold it. Dumb.
I was running a load with 170gr Beartooth bullet with a good sized meplat and 296/110 or perhaps it was lil gun (pretty sure it was lil gun) and that little rifle kicked some major ass. I think the load is on Beartooth's web site somewhere. If I remember right it shot in the 1800fps range and never leaded my barrel once. Beartooth bullets are tops and the owner is golden IMO. Cast performance or montana bullet works probably has similar offerings.
That little carbine was such a little cannon with that load I contemplated putting an adjustable peep or tang site on just to have fun with at long range.
... and that's all I got to say about that.

I went with a 357 max, last year. Not exactly what your looking for but man... I love this gun! I just bought a barrel for an Encore frame that I had laying around. I took a nice buck at 60yds and a doe at 215 (ranged) they was together and when I shot him they both ran and she stopped and looked back, after he dropped. He ran about 90-100yds (not used to one running that far after a double lung shot) but she only went about 40yds. I am shooting a Hornady 180gr SSP that I had laying around and lil gun. Shoots very accurately!

I have a Ruger 77/357 that is a fun shooter. There are a couple of accuracy mods including shimming the bolt and fixing the trigger pull. The rifle is light and accurate enough to be fun. Not much recoil.
