I seem to recall reading something here about the procedure for bedding a scope rail, but I can't locate anything by doing a search. Can anybody help me locate a post or offer the technique for bedding a rail to the receiver? Thanks for any assistance.

hillbill will probably chime in on this one. There are plenty of youtube videos of this procedure and Harry on midway has a video on it also. I think I could do it and do it right so that should tell you it's easy LOL. But very important!

It is simple Mike! Put your rail on the receiver (two screws is all you need.) Now take masking tape and closely tape the perimeter of the receiver. Remove rail and scratch up the under side contact surface with some rough sand paper (to promote adhesion) You can now carefully tape off the rail. If you overlap a little, take a fine file and use to trim against the edge. J-B weld is a good epoxy for the job. Using a release agent (any of the paste shoe polishes will work) coat the four mount screws and the surface of your receiver where the mount sits. Apply your epoxy to the bottom of the mount (I like to keep it about a tenth of an inch away from the holes) Carefully set the mount in position without squeezing it down and insert the screws. Slowly, front to back tighten the screws (that epoxy will squeeze in and around the screw where you left it bare - you just don't want to get epoxy in the holes prior to the screws going in) You do not need to torque the screws at this time. just so there the firm contact. At this time I like to scrape the excess epoxy that has squeezed out around the base. Let dry, remove screws and tap the mount lightly and it should pop off. Trim any excess. Now you can put your blue Lock tite on and tighten down. Dunsky!

Thank you, Richard. I'm going to be mounting a new scope to my Hankins SPML-45 so thought I will bed the rail properly and lap the rings for the best possible scope set-up. After setting everything up properly and sending some lead downrange, I'll post a range report.
