I have a H & R smokeless conversion-- 50 cal-- friend has a NULA and recommended 42 gr. of 5744, black Harvester crush rib and Hornady 45 cal XTP--451 diam.
Since the break open action is not as strong as the Nula 50-- I would like opinions from you guys as to whether that load is acceptable in terms of safety, not accuracy.
I realize that load experimentation will be necessary for accuracy.
Thanks

.45 cal XTP's come in 200, 250 and 300 gr.? Probably your looking at the 250 gr. version? If so, it should be fine.

I doubt the Nula action is stronger than the H&R or Apex. The H&R center'fire action can handle a 400gr bullet 500SW mag at 60k psi for a lifetime and the Apex can handle a win300 mag a 65k plus its mostly the barrel contour and breech plug you have to worry about most.

You could use a 300gr bullet with that 42gr of 5744 unless your breech plug is sub pare.. Whats your breech plug?
