I'm waiting on delivery for my H.I.S. converted Bergara 45-70 from Jeff. I wanted to ask if I needed any special supplies/tools to deprime and reprime the modules? Also what size primers and brand primers are folks using with Apex conversions? Thanks

I think Hank supplies what is needed to de-prime your modules The primers will be of the Large rifle design. Whether you choose LRM or standard would be up to you and your load. I am sure others will comment on primer brand.

you will need a hand priming tool with a 45 case holder to prime modules I use LMRP , for primer removal a pin punch and I set module on top of a deep socket that catches all the fired primers . I belive jeffs modules are designed for the fed primers as different primer are taller than others . The only other thing u made need is a sizing die for bullets to go nicely down your barrel , in my begara barrel parkers go in nice , hornadys need to be sized and the AccuMax I size also . I run 54 to 56 grns of 4198 in mine . Its a deer thumper.

Like Richard said, I think Jeff supplies what is necessary to deprime. As far as priming your modules, I'd get a RCBS hand priming tool and a #14 shell holder. For the primer, choose a LRM primer of your choice. Jeff seems to prefer Federal LRM primers I have noticed.

I was told by Jeff that the H.I.S primer modules are the same size as the base of a 45/70.
For priming I was planning on using a standard 45/70 hand priming tool shell holder - RCBS #14 ,LEE #8 ETC... .
Additionally I was then going to use a press shell holder , a Universal Decapping Die and my RCBS press to de-prime the modules.

I didn't receive anything with mine to facilitate depriming or priming. I deprime with a universal die in my Co-Ax just like it was any other metallic case. I've seen a few modules ruined by use of a punch. I prime them on my Co-Ax as well.

The size of the module depends on what conversion or rifle you have. I have modules in four different sizes. The apex and encore conversions use modules that are the same as a 45/70.? I do make a decamping stand and have a supply of 1/16 inch sterrett punches but they are not included with the gun at the qoted conversion price.. Most guys have what they need to de-cap and re-prime so I offer these to those people that need them.
The punch and stand along with a hand held priming tool work very well for re-priming at the bench. You don't need to take your reloading press with you.. I have de-capped hundreds if not a thousand of these modules this way and I have never ruined a module knocking out a primer.. If for some reason you're ruining the module by using a punch and a hammer either you ain't hitting the center hole with the punch or you need a smaller hammer.

I just use a 3/8" -1/4 drive socket-lay module on top & light tap with a old 3/4" iron wrench on a 1/16" punch,can do 5 before emptying the spent primers,fast & easy-never marred a module.
can do 25 in approx. 3-5 minutes.
priming - I use a lee auto prime w/#2 shell holder.....fed gm215m rifle primers
the above for rem 700sa
