So most here have a .458 bore ....We shoot .451,.452,.458 bullets...When measuring a group and deducting for bullet size,do we subtract the actual bullet size or the bore...? I have seen both lately and would like some confirmation....I can see how an obturated .451 bullet is coming out of the barrel at .458....So I can understand the method there...At the challenge I believe it was done by bore size....I think,lol....

Alan.
At the Kentucky Challenge we settled on using .458 as the deduction amount for 45 caliber guns. Rob was shooting a 40 caliber and iirc we used .400 for his deductions. So I would say always subtract the bore diameter and you'll be pretty close to the correct deduction. Even if the bullet doesn't obturate to full grove diameter your gonna be close enough..

If you can measure your group outside to inside of the two furthest apart shots, it will not matter as you will still get CTC and eliminate any discrepancy as to bullet width. Unfortunately when you are shooting bug holes, or at least all the shots cutting into one another, you usually cannot do that. Hence, what Hank says.
