Hey so I am always leary to join another forum, but I've been lurking for so long on here, and now I have a question I can't answer on my own, so here we are.
My name is shelton, I live in manitoba, Canada. I've been hunting for a few years , shooting for many, and decided this year to build a smokeless muzzleloader. Well the gun is Almost done. Its a savage action, green mountain 50 cal barrel.
So here's my thing. I am not a long range guy, I want to be able to hit targets at 400 yards with this thing, of its ethically lethal put there then thats cool too. Bur forsure want to kill big game within 200.
I plan to shoot 300 grain 45 cal bullets, with 5744 powder. But (maybe it's just a me problem) I can't for the life of me find a pressure trace with those specs.
Maybe someone has it handy, they could send my way? Id much appreciate it all. Thanks guys.

been awhile since my 50 cal. days but 43 or 44 gr. of 5744 is where you probably want it.

I shoot 285g fury's in my.50 green mtn barrel, with 44.5g of 5744 I get close to 2100fps, very accurate at 200yds. Mine is a Remington CF action with barrel nut.

Shooting sabot loads pressure traces are not all that much of a concern. The sabot acts as a "safety valve" because it will fail or accuracy will degrade before you reach high pressure.

Thanks guys. That is great help. I would like the idea of Btb, but I wanted to us ea sabot purely for the safety factor just starting out.

Thanks guys. That is great help. I would like the idea of Btb, but I wanted to us ea sabot purely for the safety factor just starting out. With a 50 you're not going to get much, if any, information about bullet to bore loads. That subject has been brought up recently, another member looking for data. The thread did not yield many responses. Even using sabots for the 50, there isn't much data as for what people are currently using. A few still run a 50, but not many.
