Hey everyone, I’ve been doing some searching on the site and decided to join and make a post. I’ve been intrigued by some of the smokeless conversions and I had a few questions I thought I’d ask about comparing one to the CVA paramount pro. I’m currently shooting a Paramount HTR and I’ve been thinking about picking up another gun in the near future and debating about going with a Paramount pro or something smokeless. Is there a smokeless gun out there that can be had for around the same price as a Paramount pro? Would like to have something similar to that Remington 700 chassis, I’m thinking I could have a pro set up for around $2,000-$2,500.

I’ve played around with several paramounts in .45 cal w the variflame. They can be converted using the Arrowhead conversion ($250) that has the brass modules and improved breech plug. The paramount barrels are not made to handle smokeless loads so you would need to get a barrel rated and a gunsmith to do the fitting. Paramount pros are $1800 and then you’d be looking at $1200-1800 for the new barrel that includes installation. $250 for the conversion and $150 for the bullet sizing die. So $3500-4000 total to make it safe for smokeless.
You could do this for less $$$ by purchasing a Remington ultimate and converting it (barrel and ignition) to smokeless. And that would give you more ignition choices like the HIS from Jeff or direct ignition. The proven Remington rifle bolt body and bolt might be a tad safer for smokeless - even though the paramount is really stout. JMO

I recommend contacting Hank or one of the other builders on this site. They do some fine custom guns. You get what you pay for so don't settle for less than you want, you won't be satisfied.

Never just settle for less...... Dad, R.I.P. always used to say......... "If you don't have the money or time to do it right the first time, where will you get the money or time to do it over?"
