Is a mack brother's evo 2 stainless steel muzzleloader action a good one any out there better? Just wanted to ask before I decide to build my next smokeless muzzleloader!

I would pass and buy a true muzzleloader action for a couple bucks more. That’s just me tho!

It is a true muzzleloader action that takes hankins module or asg module!

You are correct, they have a few that are called EVO 2. I didn’t scroll down to the muzzlerloader action. The price is really good for a muzzlerloader action. I personally haven’t seen one so I can’t really say on the fit and finish of the action.

Just now went to their site. The action appears to be pretty darned good, but if it is a dedicated ML action, WHY do they require FFL for shipping???

Read the fine print it says asg modules and nothing about Hankins buddy has one and cut on slot in bolt face had to be open up because hanks modules are a little thicker than ash

I have a feeling you could send the action off to Jeff and he could send it back barreled and ready for a stock.

I would say it is a dedicated muzzleloader bolt, not a dedicated muzzleloader action. The action would be certainly usable for a centerfire rifle platform by simply inserting the proper bolt, hence why a 4473 is required.

I have a Mack Brother’s bolt in a Rem 40X action. Sweet setup.
Unless I was in an immediate need, I would wait till the EVO II single shot was instock considering they are the same price.

Huge downside is it doesn't have a full rail. I would buy one otherwise.

Why would the module itself matter? If it’s .473 boltface it shouldn’t matter. The headspace is set off the breech plug. Pierce makes a dedicated action too and they work for either builder’s module.

The headspace dimension can be spot on, but the rim thickness or diameter of the body of the module being larger could stop it from sliding into the fly cut. I don’t know which it is, as I haven’t built on a Macbros.

Huge downside is it doesn't have a full rail. I would buy one otherwise. I don't see that being such a big deal. I do agree a 1 piece rail is more desirable than the 2 piece. However, adding my own rail and bedding it the way I want it done suits me just fine. Then if needed I can use a 0 MOA rail or 20 MOA rail depending on what is best for the application. My 700 long action muzzleloader build has a steel 20 MOA Nightforce bedded on top of it. Never have a concern about the rail whatsoever. If I need to change it for whatever reason, apply a little heat and gently tap on it and it'll come off no problem.

I personally haven’t seen one so I can’t really say on the fit and finish of the action. It looks pretty appealing to me. If I were in the market for building another one. I would be willing to bet this "model 700" action would not need the bolt handle removed and the timing corrected. The bolt face is fly cut already. And it's a stainless action. Add a trigger and a barrel and you're really getting somewhere with a new build. Roughly, the barreled action and a reasonable trigger you could have all set up for about $2k. Add a solid stock, and glass on top and the whole thing could be done for less than $3k. Which isn't a whole lot more than what I have in my Remington 700 build, but it would have a little nicer action than my actual Remington action. I like the idea myself, just I'm not in the market for building one right now.

My modules are machined to mimick a 308 case, so standardization for Mac Bro's should be easy. Buy a Mesa Precision or a Defiance Outcast action and don't look back.

According to Garrett Caldwell of Mack Bros the bolt face will work with either module system.

Just got an email that Midwest gun works has 700 SA in stock. The stainless, single shot is steeper than I’d hoped, but there will not be any issues with a conversion.
