I have a very nice Ruger #1 in 375 H&H I have considered doing a conversion to a SML keeping the original barrel. Have any of you built a .375 cal SML?

Many have built a .375 ML. None of them were very successful that I know of.

So the best option would be to rebarrel in .45? Are these a good option for a SML?

The factory barrel Is a no go The shank is too short to be safe in SML ]Also .375s have to be full formed Bullets that can be full formed in .375 are few to choose from Most have to be annealed copper to get them through the die You also have to have a barrel drop for your die
I did a .375 several years back and shot annealed cutting edge bullets, it shot well, I killed a couple of deer with it and moved on to other projects

There is a member on the board that has a 45sml in a Ruger no1 but don't remember exactly who but maybe they will chime in. IMO the action could easily handle any strong action equivalent load.

I have an SML Ruger No. 1 but it is in .45. I have a .375 SML based on the Savage SML. I full form but had some luck with 9.3 mm bullets as smooth riders. Do not use it anymore, pressure can be an issue and limited info on loads. Hate to experiment that way.

Is the Number 1 a good option for a SML? I also have a Rem Ultimate I could convert. I am looking for a accurate hunting rifle. I have owned a Savage ML 1 since 01 or 02 so this time I want it done right.

The Ultimate would be the easier option

One thing I like about the Ruger No. 1 is with its action it is shorter overall and is handier in my limited space shooting stand. No doubt anything built on the Rem design offers much more flexibility with aftermarket parts.

jim's, I saw a picture once of your #1 sml and I really like it. Awesome platform for a woods or stand gun.

I have other SMLs that also have some decent figured wood. Finished a Koa stock recently from wood and a member in Hawaii.
