What size socket are you guys using to remove the breech plug on Hankins encore barrels with the HIS ignition system? I’m having a hard time finding a socket that will fit in the back of the barrel and still grab the plug. Thanks

I am guessing you are using a 3/8" or 1/2" drive standard wall socket, those will not work.

I tried a standard socket and could not insert it far enough in to engage the plug. In addition to the Encore that I scavenged for the Hankins smokeless build, I had an old TC Omega that required a tool for breach plug removal. That tool for the Omega worked fine. I bought a second one to keep with the smokeless Encore.

1/4" drive ratchet and 7/16" socket or a 7/16" nut driver is what I use.

The socket I tried must not have been "thin walled" enough to fit in.

When my regular 1/4 inch ratchet socket didn't work, I tried the TC plug removal tool for the Omega. It fit perfectly and is small and easier to transport as a ratchet and socket. I'm sure I could find a thin walled socket if I looked.

With my MLs both bolt and break action I use the ractchet style, as for transporting I only take it to the range in my ML range box along with other needed items such as powder, primers. bullets ect. in case of the need to remove the plug, During my hunting trip it stays at home, Now if I had a DI breech lug I would have to take a nut driver,
