I've had pretty good luck with Federal primers and H4198. I've only played with the CVA conversion, so if you're doing a build, I'm sure some of the others will have better input. What kind of non-smoker are you putting together?

There are several tried and true loads on this board and of course use Jeff’s recommendations. Welcome back

not trying to be a smartie but these days the best primer is whatever primer you can find available. I would not hesitate to use any large rifle or mag large rifle primer. I have never found any one primer to be better than another and I have used CCI,Win,Rem,and Fed including the match versions.

I set my dad (He's 77 now) up with a scout for the 2021 season shooting a 250 BE and he took two deer that season with it. We have switched this past season to the 250 Accumax with a wad for some reason the BE wasn't shooting as good. We are using 65gn of IMR 4198 in both conversions. I shot the 275gn Accumax with a wad in mine. I prefer Federal 215 primers but have recently purchased the Remington 9 1/2M primers and they work fine. In the off season I also shoot the Federal 210 and it works well too. Any quality large rifle or large rifle magnum primer should do the job. I do prefer to just shoot the magnums in our scouts just to be safe.
