Give me your thoughts on duplex loads. Pros vs. cons. I keep seeing "ignition problems in cold". What is considered cold? Currently I do not plan on doing this, but I would still like the ends and outs of it.

Last day of deer season tomorrow in IA. Start of day will be around zero and the high will be around 6 deg. I am sure some of you see it colder, and we do too, but that is cold. While I am confident a straight load of 4198 would go bang, I am even more confident a duplex load of 4759/4198 will. Some will argue not necessary, but that is one pro.

And this ol' iron monkey ain't gonna lose any brass out there tomorrow, either! This year, it's gonna be 1st Season........heck with this weather. It's going to be warmer in Fairbanks! I duplex only because I get a little better accuracy with the more moderate loads that I use. But others get the same or better accuracy with single powder loads. Could just be a case of Ford vs. Chevy vs. Dodge vs. Toyota, etc.

You still can not argue the reliability factor of using a booster with a better ignition rating to start the main charge vs. just using the main charge alone. Not when Mr. B&C is looking at you from the other end of your scope! Given equal accuracy or very close to it, I would opt for the duplex..........especially under less than ideal conditions.

Duplex loads certainly have their place as peoples needs, circumstances and desires may dictate.
For my particular load requirements, which are strictly short range hunting loads where I won't be hunting in temps below 20 deg., I really don't see where duplexing would benefit me much. I'll be able to get satisfactory accuracy and reliable ignition shooting saboted, single powder loads, so I feel duplexing would be somewhat counter-intuitive to my KISS hunting style.
Now if I end up venturing into the sabotless side of our sport it may be an option I'd consider.
Just my point of view and I'm certainly not knocking any of the guys who prefer duplexing, as they certainly are shooting some nice groups and big bucks, and no one can argue with that.
