I have a couple of questions as a friend and I are considering building Savages on the HIS system.
1) Does the ejector spring and pin get removed from the bolt nose ?
2) I assume the extractor is retained ?
3- What is the module loading/unloading sequence ? For example, does the rifle need to remain pointed up while the bolt is closed in order to keep the module flat on the bolt face? And is it possible that the module will fall from the bolt face during extraction or does the rifle need to be pointed up while in the extraction step ? I would hate to get a module ahead of the bolt and have to fish it out before the bolt could be closed with a fresh module on it.

Scat, I have one of Jeff's rifles built on a Reminton action
1. The ejector is removed from the bolt face. 2. The extractor is retained, and it hold the module in place 3. If I am shooting off a bench, I load the powder, bullet, and then set the rifle on my rest. I then place the module on the bolt face, the extractor holds the module in place, then close the bolt. with my rifle the module stays in place until I remove it with my fingers. The module will not fall off just because the rifle is in the horizontal position. I have knocked them off the bolt face before, but they are pretty easy to remove.
I would not hesitate to get another muzzleloader with this system.

I have built several ML's on the savage action and it works very well. The ejector pin is removed so the modules will stay in place.. The extractor stays and works basically like the extractor in a Remington. The modules snap in and out pretty easy once you get used to putting them in place.. The savage action works really good as a base to start with...

Thanks Jeff. Looking at your site, I saw an 11/16 plug (HRPS) that appears to be a few hundred thousandths short of a savage plug but the same thread. What plug does this replace? Do you have any plans of making an 11/16 plug that utilizes your modules but will install directly in place of the Savage plug? That would be good for me as I can convert my current rifles to match the one I plan to build on the HIS system.
