My first smokeless should be back from the builder next week, and I cannot find IMR 4198 anywhere. I just want to keep it simple and use a proven load. My rifle has a 26" modified 5" shank Brux #6, built on a Rem 700 SA. with the H.I.S ignition. My goal is to launch a 250-275 grain (sabot-less) projectile in the 2600 fps range.
I have been reading about powder on this site so much that my head is spinning. Here are the three powders that I can find. RE7, RE10x, and N120. Which of these, or which two of these should I order?
Any powder grain weight suggestions would also be greatly appreciated.

I just bought 3 lbs of IMR 4198 on Gun Broker for $150 plus $60 shipping. Thats $70 per lb if you include shipping costs. Not cheap but it's the only place I could find it.

I use Alliant Reloder-7 (Do not confuse with Hodgdon Accurate No.7 which is a fast/medium burning pistol powder)!!!!!
In my CVA Hunter 44 cal SML I shoot 59 grains of Reloder-7 with a 315 grain bullet for 2503 fps. The Reloder-7 has near the burn rate as 4198 but produces a bit more power per weight/volume, so start at your minimum chamber requirement (my chamber is a 55 grain chamber and thats where I started and worked up to 59 grains).

IMR 4198, Reloader #7 isn't that hard to find in northern MI. Seen a bunch of both just the other day at Jay's. They had an 8# jug of RL17 that I should have picked up.

4227 is another option for a 275 grain bullet.
