I am looking for a few people to test some standard brass modules with small primer pockets. If you are interested in doing this, please PM me here and I will give you the details as to what is needed to be done.
Since large rifle primers are almost impossible to find, I thought I would make a few standard size modules with small primers in them. I will need volunteers to test these alongside of a module with large rifle primers in them and using the same load. Each load will need to be chrono graphed and logged in a book. If this test works out and the small rifle primers will ignite the powder charges it will give us a second option when we cannot find the large rifle primers.
If you are interested in doing this test I will supply and ship you the test modules, you will need to supply the small rifle primers, do some shooting and report back here with the results.

I believe your on to something that will work and work well. If you were to make a few direct bolts cut small -I would test them for you. Thanks Jeff

Not an apples to apples comparison, but I made a breech plug system for break actions that used small magnum pistol primers. I used it for several years. Charges and powders loosely based off of milder Savage ML loads. It worked great, and I never had any failure to fire, etc.
It will be interesting to see data on heavier bore rider loads, but I’m betting it will work fine.

How would Remington or Winchester large rifle magnum primers work instead of the Federal 215 or CCI ? Any large rifle magnum primer will work. I have seen every primer made used in these guns and they all produce excellent results. Now we will see if the small rifle primers will work as good or all most as good and if they do, then we have more options.

Several years ago - I bought into the 25acp ignition for my encore barreled .45. I used small pistol magnum primers and it ignited blackhorn 209 really well. I’m not sure how hot the small rifle or small rifle magnum primer is vs the pistol primer - but I know guys that are using the small rifle primers in the 6.5 creedmore and won’t use anything else. I haven’t tried them with smokeless but I’m sure this is going to work and give some options with the primer shortage that we are having. I haven’t shot my .45 smokeless for a few years- I need to pm Hank as well.

I’ll volunteer Jeff per our text . I have small rifle and small rifle magnum primers I can run through several different SML I own and shoot through Labradar to compare them to my already known velocities with LRMP i currently use.. plus I own both.40 and .45 to test in

Guys I have cci 250 large rifle magnums, winchester wlr primers, cci 400s srp, cci 450s srmp, federal 205m srp, and have aguila srp on the way. But I only have 4198 and 275gr pittmans. I use a magnetospeed but can borrow a Labradar. What is being looked for in the testing?

I will try some 450s vs LMRP in the rehab gun which is shooting 88 grns of Benchmark with a 300. Right now I don't have anything I can shoot a large dose in, my guess is that's where he biggest difference will be. Scout loads of 60 grns or so I would guess maybe 20-30 fps difference? My gun maybe 40-50? We shall see
