Illinois has changed the regulations to allow single shot rifles with straight wall cartridges and some other chamberings for deer. It just so happens I have a factory ported , 45/70 Contender Barrel I bought many moons ago. Years ago ,I tried a number of tricks, but the 300 grain loads from that light Carbine had vicious recoil. So after it beat me up sufficiently , I set it aside. So now Hornady has a 250 grain .458 monoflex. So I’m gonna dust off the barrel and start over. Since I have a good supply of VV N120 I want to use that. I’m thinking Trapdoor loads a good start, but can’t find any load suggestions where to start? Any QL suggestions?

Hornady notes “The data below was developed with Monoflex bullets. Due to the longer ogive it is critical that the cartridge be trimmed to the length specified.”
