Ok folks I need some help. I shoot a savage Ml 10 2 45 caliber with a brux barrel. I’m old school and still have a savage breech plug. My accuracy went south last week so I knew I probably needed a new vent liner. When I pulled the Breech plug out I discovered this problem with my breech plug where the primer seats into the breech plug. So my questions are: 1 What caused this? 2 is my assumption correct that this would decrease my accuracy? 3 Is it safe to shoot this way? 4 who stocks Savage breech plugs or do I need to get this from Savage? 5 if so does anyone have a number for Savage so I don’t have go through all the different departments? Finally should I consider using a replacement/newer style breech plug? If so what are the advantages of switching to a breech plug with modules? Thanks in advance for any and all answers. I know I’ve asked a lot of questions.

I cannot answer all your questions but I think Savage gave up on the MLII and will not supply you with a breechplug, vent liners etc. You may be able to get them from independents. I know that Hank at one time sold replacement SS breech plugs, perhaps with a carbide bushing in lieu of the vent liner. Not sure that he still does or has any in stock now.

Hank's website shows to have a stock Savage replacement breech plug and one with a carbide bushing in stock.
That looks like it might be carbon buildup, kinda hard to tell in that pic. Have you tried to drill it out lately? I used to do that every year before season. hope this helps...

I’d get a Hank plug. However, drill out the carbon and try a new ventliner. Your accuracy should return.

You need to drill out the flame channel with a 5/32" drill bit and probably replace the vent liner. I would switch over to the bushing breechplug in the link above and clean the flame channel after every range session especially before hunting.
