Strider, I would consider that load tops for all practical purposes but ultimately you will need to decide where to start and stop.
In the real world that is plenty enough of a load for 90+% of deer hunting that anybody is likely to do. If you feel you need more power I would suggest looking into a stronger platform and higher BC bullets. The guys on here are pretty much the proving grounds on what todays smokless muzzy is capable of in the right hands so read up and ask questions.
Also keep in mind the apex is a pretty light gun so even that 250sst at 2600 is gonna bark up your tree.
Hope that helps.

What twist rate and bullet are you using. Mine is a 1 in 22 and I shoot 58 grains 4198 200 grain sst with harvester light blue sabots. Have a .30 bushing plug but have already talked to Hank about one of his plugs. Barrel is 28" long.

Thanks for the reply. I was trying to extrapolate a single powder load that would give the same results within safe parameters. I have a lot of faith in my HIS ignition and I'm hoping I won't have to duplex.

Good to hear. Helps keep things simple! I was going to use H4198. Any thoughts on how much powder to use to get 250-275 gr bullets out of the muzzle at close to 2600fps?

I don't know if you are planning on smooth sizing but a tight fit bullet gives you higher velocity.

All my response below pertains to H4198 or IMR4198. This is only my opinion but I would guess 2600fps with a 275gr would be pushing your system into the 40,000 range. To me that is all I would want to give it. 2600 with the 250gr is probably a reasonable load. 2500 with the 275 would be more warm and fuzzy to me. Unless they have changed the barrels and more specifically the flutes they leave these barrels pretty thin and the chamber area is none too thick either. That said I think there is plenty of safety built in even at 40,000 psi.
I have put hundreds of rounds through mine @ that 40,000 range but I am presently and in the future going to be down loading mine. I have a big gun for big loads and the apex is now shared with my daughter.

Is 55 grain H4198 with a 300 gr MH in the safe zone for a encore & Bargara barrel?

Is 55 grain H4198 with a 300 gr MH in the safe zone for a encore & Bargara barrel? I've shot 60gr of IMR4198 out of my H&R with Douglas barrel. It was hard on the shoulder. I try and keep the bullets under 275gr for my gun anyway. Now my bolt gun is gonna be another story.

Not really a answer to the question! I would say yes to your question referring to using 55gr of H4198 with a Beragra barrel. I did a quick search on a pressure trace that was similar and it looks pretty safe. I regret not directly answering your question.

Human, let me get this straight. You have a stock .45 Encore? I didn't know they made Encores in .45. Anyway, you have already been shooting 4198 with 200 sst w/ light blue? Why do you want to convert to smokeless if you are already shooting smokeless? Bullberry is a great company, but very expensive unless you get the package deal where they make you a stock and forearm out of beautiful wood. You can choose the blank. I would also have them use a Brux or Krieger barrel, which is as cheap as any barrel ( within $50 or so). Lastly I would have them make the gun in a caliber Hank tells you is best for conversion to the HIS system. And very lastly I would talk Hank into welding on your scope base so your barrel strength is not compromised.

Being a good speller is NOT a requirement to be a Lawyer My thinking is I personally would be a little nervous about using anything over the 275 at a very moderate speed in the bergera barrel but thats just me. recoil is getting pretty severe even at that..

I've decided to go the quick route now with Bergara conversion. Thanks for the input.
