Been working on load development for a .40 caliber for a guy from Pennsylvania that owns property across road from my house.. He asked for a gun and scope to buy but wanted lighter recoil.. I tried RL-15 and 300 accumax with good accuracy but recoil a little sharp so I had plenty of IMR4895 so come up with 81 grain and a 275 accumax with a wool wad shooting consistently 3/8-1/2 inch groups at 100 with velocities in 2835-2839 never below or under.. loading was very very consistent with clean burning.never struggled to get a bullet down Barrel.. HIS ignition 1.25 shank for 5 inch 28 inch inch barrel very pleased with this load I’m sure this guy will put some deer down this winter.

Good info for the .40 cal hunters.

That goes along with my best load for my 26” barrel similarly designed 40 cal. DI, 278g AM, wool wad, 75g H4895, 2769-2776.
Full disclosure: requires a wire brush once between shots to keep loading pressure and speeds consistent. 275g AMs have slightly better accuracy. 275 is consistently <1” @ 200 yards and 278g is appx 1”. 275g was slightly better w/o wool wad, 278 needed wad.

It was a little dirtier than H4895 but the residue from the IMR4895 seemed to be softer which allowed easier and overall smoother loading. Accuracy was also really good. I was using direct ignition. It was slower in speed compared to H4895 grain for grain. Some of my friends .45,s also have similar results with the IMR4895 also. After hearing how accurate and low speed deviation you tested- I’ll have to try it in my .40 Thanks

I’ve had similar results to yours with brushing (H4895) between shots -but you have better accuracy than I did. thanks for sharing.
