How many would be interested in a LONG RANGE, 1,000yd, muzzleloader match? This is very preliminary, but I've been in contact with the Marksmanship Training Center here in Michigan and they state that they could facilitate a SML 1,000yd match. This would not take place in 2022 but rather sometime in 2023 when they have openings. Shooting would be from the prone position using bipods at paper for score. Honestly, I've never setup a match and don't have the first idea how to make this happen but, with help it can happen. What say you? www.marksmanshiptrainingcenter.com/

I would be interested in going but only after the rules are posted.
I’ve planned and ran matches in the past, lots of work goes into having a successful shoot.

The prone position is going to kill you for attendance, having to lay down to shoot, then stand up to load will suck big time. IMO if you want to have an SML match, my will need to shoot from benches.

IMO if you want to have an SML match, my will need to shoot from benches. They do not use benches at the MTC. They also do not waver from the rules. Prone is not as hard as one might think. I'll be 71yrs young on my next. I just completed the Match at Camp Atterbury of 800, 900 and 1,000yds. My lower left lung is collapsed and I wear a knee brace because of a bad knee, which is being replaced July 28th. I had no issues whatsoever getting into position to shoot or get up to load, even in a metal knee brace. Baby steps.......... Lets get a foot in the door.

While I don't mind shooting from a bipod you do have a couple of things working against you for a 1000 yd match.
Most guys in the long range SML game are shooting guns with no provision for a bipod, many are using wide flat benchrest type forends on their rigs. Depending on where it is in Michigan distance and fuel prices today will be a limiting factor.
Not trying to discourage you at all, hopefully you will get a lot of participation. most of the 1000 yd guys I know are not using hunting rigs but big heavy bench guns, are hunting rigs capable to 1000? Yep they sure are, matter of fact it makes the game much more interesting IMO.
Do your homework and it can be successful, best of luck and who knows? I might decide to make the trip and bring some along.

The bipod provision could be modified to allow either a bipod or front rest. Shooting would still be prone. Hunting rifles surely are capable of 1k. We proved that a couple weeks ago at Camp Atterbury shooting 120grs volume of BH209 We have to start someplace.............

Nice day, wife had things she wanted to do so.. I jumped in the Slingshot and road over to the MTC. They were just finishing up the end of day F-class relay. I was able talk to Rex some and what we do know now is, the SML shooters WOULD NOT shoot with the F-class shooters. F-class does not allow muzzle brakes and would not appreciate the SML brakes.
So pretty much the SML shooters would have to pay for the range day. We would also be manning the pits, so radios would be required.
Still plenty to find out.........

Going to likely put this thought off............. Well my entire end of summer right up to the moment has been less than ideal. I had a knee replacement on July 26th and everything went well. PT was 3 times a week and the girls had me doing great. By the 5th week, the girls at PT told me that another week and I'd be released. Good news. Then all hell came down. I had to see a pulmonary doctor early on a Thursday morning. That went well however, when I tried to stand up to leave, my knee started just killing me with pain. I made it to the truck but couldn't get in. I couldn't find anyone to help me get my leg in the truck. Finally, I made it in although with a hell of a lot of pain. I only had 3 stops to get out of town and out to the country road home. I called the wife, who when I got home was standing in the garage waiting for me. I was a complete mess and couldn't get out of the truck. The wife put a thermometer to my head and it registered .... 105°. She helped me out of the truck and into her vehicle and into ER we went. I have no clue about how I got there or the trip, nothing. Everything is a complete blank. Long story shortened, some type of 1 in every 250,000 chances of someone having a certain bacteria and I had it. My white blood cell count was completely out of control. The ortho doctor had to open my knee replacement up, flush it 3 times and replace all the plastic with antibiotic stuff. I spent 6 days in the hospital, with antibiotics running non stop. Leaving meant that I'd have in-home nurses and be on IV's 24/7 for 6 weeks. Its a pain in the rear to be hooked up to a pump 24/7 and changing IV's every 12hrs. The wife has gotten pretty good at it. My blood work is showing improvement and the IV is done this week on the 20th. The PICC line in my arm comes out on the 21st. I'll finally have mobility without carting around a fanny pack with a pump and IV in it. OLD AGE ISN'T FOR THE WEAK. I'm going to pass on hunting whitetail this year. Firearm season opens Nov. 15th here, but I'm taking it off. There will be other years. I hope So unless things make a drastic change, I'm likely not going to pursue a SML match.

Dang it that sounds rough. Hope you mend back to 110% and get on with life as usual. I've always enjoyed following your posts over the years and where you've taken BH209. Good luck!

Wow, sorry you were confronted with the medical challenges. Best of luck getting back to where you were before all the trouble started. Keep up with your positive mental attitude, it helps a lot with physical and mental healing.
As far as attempting to hit a target with a bullet fired from my awesome Hankins SPML-45, I wouldn't have a clue how to do it! haha I'm still excited and amazed that I can punch bullet holes in targets at 300 and 400 yards!
And thinking about getting down to prone and standing back up, it would be a challenge after my body has been wrecked from my school years playing football, wrestling and weight-lifting. I would do it, but it wouldn't be pretty. haha
